Obviously this being nothing more than a pc cd reader conencted to an Orange pi, this is in the realms of possibility for retropie to pull off.
Does anyone know how easy it is to conenct a CD reader to the Pi and play original discs?

        I saw this.

It looks like it's a no-go with retropie due to retroarch. And looking at that project, I don't think they're using retropie at all. I think they're using Kodi or something to that effect. Heck, it could be OSMC.

it must be possible to do this surely? I would like to see what their psx emulation is like.

They're using Kodi only for the front-end, in the back-end they're still using the same emulators and libretro/Retroarch to play the games - https://seedisystem.com/about/seedi-open-source-software-information/ .
The only novelty here is that they're introducing the CD emulator to read the data from the physical device and - I'm just guessing - present it as a regular pair of .cue/.bin files for the emulator to understand.
They're also promising (the same page as above) that they'll open source upon launch their CD emulation layer, so maybe there is hope in the future (if their project succeeds).
