Converting Original Xbox Into Case For RaspberryPi
-
Another update, now I just got this:
to work with Retropie I got the blue LEDs to turn on when the RaspberryPi is turned on and to turn off when the RaspberryPi is turned of, I am not sure what to do with the
eject
button, any suggestions, and red LEDS.And I got the fan that was in the Xbox to work too
I will post pictures of all of this on my GitHub tomorrow morning :)Other stuff I need to do are put all the cables in(HDMI, Ethernet, ETC) and buy the following:

@retroprogrammer as far as the eject you could wire it up to reset or if you decided to make the disk drive functional then you could use it to eject. The disc drive could be used in dosbox and kodi. I have an xbox that i will be modding eventually with a pi. Smartxx had these little adapters that switched the controller ports to usb ports. I have a couple of these to use on the pi. I also have the dvd remote dongle for the xbox that i am hoping i will be able to get to work in kodi.
-
@edmaul69 I wish I could use the disk drive but the previous owner had jammed it and broke the disk drive, He had modded it, but I have a Xbox that was modded by me :)
-
@edmaul69 Where would you wire the
eject
button for reset? -
This post is deleted! -
@retroprogrammer if you look on the pi next to the usb ports there are two holes that says “run”. You can solder a pin header there. One of the holes is ground and the other is the reset. Make sure you wire the eject wire to the correct one if there is a shared ground on the power button board. you dont need to wire a ground to the ground hole if there is a shared ground. Again make sure you wire the eject button to the correct hole if thats the case. I believe the square one is the correct hole.

Okay everyone I have finished my project "converting a original Xbox into a case for a RaspberryPi " I will be posting some pictures of the inside and outside later :-)
-
I have posted the pictures on my GitHub here:
https://github.com/retro-programmer/Converting-Original-Xbox-Into-Case-For-RaspberrPiI am officially done! everything works fine!
-
Hey guys, I even got a start-up video splash screen, that looks like the real thing, I will put it for download on my GitHub here: https://github.com/retro-programmer/Converting-Original-Xbox-Into-Case-For-RaspberrPi
It is called:
HD 1080p Original Xbox Startup in HD.mp4
-
@retroprogrammer any chance you can post pics here. Im on a cellphone and all the images say “cannot open. File is too big.”
-
I'm gonna fix my xbox n soft mod it again.
-
@edmaul69 when I tried posting on forum it said the file was to big to, I took pictures on my phone I will try and post again :)
-
@retroprogrammer you can put them on imgur and then post link here. Has to be link on imgur that has .jpg or whatever in it.
-
@edmaul69 okay I will do that it will take a while though, I am busy :-)
-
@retroprogrammer no problem
-
@edmaul69 Here it is on imgur: https://imgur.com/gallery/pwszO :-)
-
I have also got a fan in the inside running from the GPIO pins
-
Now that I am finished I am bored not sure what to do now? ;-)
-
@retroprogrammer Well you can write a small script that checks for savegames states for loaded ROM and tells the user in the runcommand that there are savestates stored ;) Maybe with creation date and number of states ;)
That was a idea I wanted to do during Xmas but I was on vacation and there was no time to do this ;)
All in all your mod seems to be working ;)
But you may know that the XBOX gots the more powerfull processor as the RPI3 ;)
I still have one old XBOX running, with some emulators and media center. It runs very good and keeps the old XBOX game playable .... Maybe the RPi 5 or 6 can emulate the XBOX 1 -

@cyperghost Yeah I know, but the old Xbox was just catching dust in my storage and I wanted it to be modded into a case when I first even bought, but then we had to move from Melbourne, Australia to Queensland, Australia and didn't get time to start.
No one in the house has any interest in the original Xbox anyway if you have a RetroPie machine
