Chicuelo Theme
-
@BJRetro I was wondering which one fits better on the whole theme. Mostly characters are smiling and more naif, this is a bit more aggressive so Im looking other options
-
@BJRetro
I think this is going to be the final one, I made some changes on the face, hair, boots, stroke and color adjustments -
@chicuelo with the simplyfied theme options the user can change the detailed view to look like in this request:https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/15830/chicuelo-theme/575
(Use metadata and game description instead of system logo and description). So the user won't have to look at this thread to find the code I posted to achieve that look and paste it in the theme.xml
An alternative option is to use the games logo instead of the system logo when using video view, this can be combined with the game description code.I can't remember if I had any other options and I also had no time yet to work on this.

Thank you for the information, does this apply on emulationstation or attract mode only?
I wanted to use chicuelo theme, but I use emulationstation only, I dont use attact mode.
How can I view the "game description" information to show on emulationstation chicuelo theme instead of the logo?
Also I wanted to try and mod this theme, what would I need to do in order to change the "scrolling" logo's that appear for each system to color? eg the mame logo displays grey, but how can I change it to show blue instead etc.
any info would be great, thank you

@Wildfire Hows your modified theme going?
-
@Wildfire I'm also very anxious to see how wonderful that was ...

Any thought put into differentiating the Famicom and Famicom Disk Systems? They have the same logo and characters.
Not sure what you could use as the character but the logo could be changed to something more like this...

@Keigan Hi!, which font do you used for that "Now Loading" and the text below? Thanks!
-
@chicuelo NeoGeo snap looking great now!
Sharp X68k has many good releases but most famous would be Castlevania, found this great snap for it. .
-
@rand0m Thanks, I will take a look when I have a break
-
@rand0m Not the same image but this one is a more recognizable pose, you can update the repo and find the assets there
-
@chicuelo Thank you, that's even better! I'll update :)
-
@Wildfire Stunning work, just stunning!! Lovely mods, great work and thanks for sharing! Would you possibly share these mods at all? I switch between this theme and Hursty's SuperSweet, and I think what you've done here is great. I really enjoy modding themes as well, props!

@chicuelo hi, thank you for the amazing theme but i have some issues. For some reason ES doesn't load up logos, characters, controllers etc. How could i fix this?
"/recalbox/share/system/.emulationstation/themes/Chicuelo/snes/../theme.xml") could not find file "./_assets/logos/${system.theme}.svg" (which resolved to "/recalbox/share/system/.emulationstation/themes/Chicuelo/snes/../_assets/logos/${system.theme}.svg") lvl1: Warning from theme
-
@Boywond Are you using recalbox? This theme is for Retropie.

Hey there :)
While troubleshooting something else entirely, I noticed my es_log.txt registers this error when the Chicuelo theme is loaded:
lvl1: Warning from theme "/etc/emulationstation/themes/Chicuelo/custom-collections/theme.xml"
(from included file "/etc/emulationstation/themes/Chicuelo/custom-collections/../theme.xml")
could not find file "./_assets/characters/${system.theme}.jpg" (which resolved to "/etc/emulationstation/themes/Chicuelo/custom-collections/../_assets/characters/custom-collections.jpg")Basically, this means 'custom-collections.jpg' is missing from the _assets/characters folder.
I don't use custom collections at all, however the error is still logged regardless if you use it or not. You will probably find this yourself on your own build at:
/opt/retropie/configs/all/emulationstation/es_log.txtTo solve, we need a custom-collections.jpg to be present in the _assets/characters directory. Do you have an image for this? If not perhaps some sort of placeholder to suppress the error?
Hope this helps.
Cheers :)

@movisman Thanks for the point. I have disabled all the display texts on my setup so I didn't notice any log, however I will make that png so the theme works fine.
One issue I have a few times is when I change between systems, sometimes the character is not displayed until I restart or enter a game and quit. Basically when Es is restarted. I don't experiment this scince the last changes we made on the theme, because now the main bg is dark where the character.jpg is placed, before that it was white. Maybe some improvements on the xml fixed that. -
@movisman Done, I also added a blank png for the controller of the genres which where missing

Great, thanks a lot! I will update when I get chance and see if the log is clear now.
