Ps3 case mod

Hi there. Sorry if this has already been answered. But I'm planning on putting my retropie into a ps3 console that I've got lying around. I'd like to use the original ps3 power supply to power the rpi3. Would this be possible if I use a buck step down power converter? Also how do I attach a led strip to light up the inside of the ps3 when the retropie is on? Sorry if these questions are a bit dumb but I'm a complete noob to the raspberry pi scene.
