Someone on facebook told me he got neogeo cd working and I tried to build lr-mess from source but failed. It took over a day building and it failed. Today I gave up and asked him for his build and retroarch configs. Seems to work fine. Some options fromretroarch-core-options.cfg in /opt/retropie/configs/all/needs to be changed. mame_media_type = "cdrm" and mame_softlists_enable = "disabled". Maybe hide the nag screen too, but once the game boots you can edit that. neocd.zip and neocdz.zip bios file are also required.

I would love a binary of this because it's impossible to build for me and whoever can build it will experience over a day of waiting.

It'd be great to see some development as well like increasing the cd volume and a way to make loading times faster. There is a visual bug. Invisible thick vertical lines make the image look..not great. Noticeable when the screen is moving.

@darksavior so whats the point of using neo geo cd? Load times are stupid long on the real system and i believe only the japanese rpg thats in all japanese is the only game that isnt on the neo geo aes and mvs systems.

I don't care much for Neo Geo CD but lr-mess would be great to have since it covers so many obscure platforms and also as an alternative to other emulators.

@edmaul69 Samurai Shodown RPG, Ironclad Brikinger, Crossed Swords 2, Zintrick , and some mahjong game were exclusive. Ironclad got a rom dump later on from extracting it from the wii virtual console version.

My main reason is the amazing cd soundtracks some of these games had. Some of the earlier games unfortunately have no such arranged soundtracks, but the later ones do. The loading times can be quite irritating but I feel it's totally worth it for games that don't have loading time in between rounds like Samurai Shodown 3, kof94 and 95 (probably others).

Further development might reduce these load times with some type of cd image cache setting some other emulators use like mednafen pce-fast.

@darksavior have you tried setting this up in advmess? Not sure if it works on the pi version or not. But systems that do work on advmess run way smoother than lr-mess. Not sure if it supports chd’s or not though.

@edmaul69 Nah, I tend to avoid non-libretro emulators due to lack of shader support.

@darksavior that is true in most cases. Advmess does however have scanlines and several other shaders. I actually like advmess and dosbox’s scanlines better than retroarch scanlines. In advmess you have lots of control over the look of the games. Advmess also lets you set crazy resolutions. You can even set the systems to run in their native resolution which is great for crt’s

@BuZz After waiting for FBA to get neocd support, I finally got around to trying it. It doesn't support chd and it doesn't support cd audio. Any chance for a binary of lr-mess in the future? It takes over a day to compile and tends to fail the last time I tried, and atm it seems to be only emulator with proper neocd support.
