Four Player N64 Build
-
So having already built Raspberry Pi 2s into NES and SNES consoles, I figured that with the increased ability to play N64 games with the Pi 3 it was time to make a build. I started with a two player version I gave to my brother-in-law (a huge N64 fan back in the day), then moved on the the main event: a four player overclocked build. Obviously the quality of four player mode is dependent on the game (as all N64 play is on the Pi), but overall it works great. Mario Kart 64 plays almost identically in four player as one and two even. Let me know what you think!

@nick I love a design like this. No question what it is, but you don't need your cartridges!
What is the silver USB cable for?
You could also mount an HDMI port with an internal extender to the Pi. Same for the USB power so your cords plug into your N64, not through the case and into the Pi. That way, it could be portable with true plug and play.
In any case, it looks like a fun setup with good use of space on the box.

May I ask what speed you overclock that to, and what your ram split is set to?

The silver USB cable is just a USB male to female, so I can plug in a keyboard when I need to. Yes, I should probably be using internal extenders, and I would also like to include a powerblock to make the power switch work. For now though I'm satisfied. As far as the overclock, I've got it at 1350 with overvolt 4. I'll have to check on the ram split because I don't remember at the moment and it's at my buddies house, I'll look when I get it back.

Could you please link me the 2 port n64 to USB converters you used. Looking to pick some up for something similar and looking to use something that is already tested.

In my n64 conversion (not completely done with it yet) I used this one:

Took it apart, desoldered the connectors, and connected them (via short wires) directly to the n64 ports. works well, save for the analog sticks. They need to be calibrated. Here's a post on doing that (on the old forum):
