Eurogamer Article on RetroArch Infringement
-
For anyone interested in learning more about libretro's trials with Hyperkin, Retro-Bit and Cyber Gadget profiting off of their noncommercial work on RetroArch, this eurogamer article details how the whole situation transpired, as well as the potential repercussions to various corners of the retro-gaming community. It's a thorough and lengthy look at the issue, but very much worth the read from beginning to end. Our own @dankcushions was the very first to comment below the article with his own personal opinion as a developer affected by this type of activity.
The article goes on to advocate raising awareness of these infringements as a possible means of prevention in the future. Whether or not that's an effective strategy remains to be seen, but at least the possibility of awareness itself seems very possible, as the article is listed as the third result down in a simple Google search for "Retro Gaming". At any rate, we can only hope that these types of cases become much rarer in the future and that retro game emulation as a hobby can continue to thrive. Thank you very much to all the developers who have weathered the storm so far and please know that your contributions are thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated by thousands of grateful people on a daily basis.
