Is it possible to play DICE games on retropie?

I wanted to try Pong for the Mame, until I realised it was not there, as it technically cannot be emulated. After a quick google search, I saw there is an "emulator" for those pre-microchip games, DICE (Discrete Integrated Circuit Emulator). Man oh man would I love to see something like this added. Unfortunately, it looks like DICE is x86 only, which if true would likely limit its inclusion to x86 RetroPie, if at all. However, as of version 0.146u4, MAME itself began growing support for discrete integrated circuit emulation/simulation. That being the case, I believe any version past that can at least play 'PONG'. Running such a modern version of MAME is normally not a good idea on the Raspberry Pi, as it's usually not up to the task, but perhaps the workload for this type of emulation/simulation would be an exception. Ever since MAME added support for handheld LCD games, I've wanted to see how these potentially less demanding games would perform, but I have yet to find the time to experiment. Maybe someone more knowledgeable in this area can shed some light as to the chances of this being possible.

Well, someone™ could open a feature request on sourceforge. 😌

It's a pretty big feature request to suggest porting to a whole new architecture when there doesn't seem to have been any project activity at all in the past two to four years. However, I guess it couldn't hurt to put the idea out there and see if and how it's received.

@Clyde i really want the gi ball and paddle games simulated on the pi. If you want a really complete one look for the free download of the homebrew game “ultimate pong” for the intellivision. Me and rev (the games producer) went scouring for all the different pong games we could find to have them put in that game. The game has color options, up to 4 players, music options, difficulty, blah, blah, blah.

You guys did great work. It's easily the best version I've played by a long shot. Even Atari didn't code computer AI for all the variants of 'Video Olympics'. What's more, the AI can be pretty challenging in the various modes. To me, this is very important, as I truly love playing 'PONG', but it's a bit of a tough sell for friends and family outside of the occasional game here and there.

Below is a great in-depth look at 'Ultimate PONG' and all of its modes by YouTuber GRay Defender, who you can tell has a lot of love and respect for the release. He even gives a very brief history of the original game, as well as a sample game of PONG basketball at the end where he's bested by the computer.
