Press select button to launch current game playing on the screensaver?
-
I sometimes see interesting games in my big rom collection on the screensaver that I'd like to play, it'd be cool if I could just hit select or something and it would load up the game being shown. At the same time, maybe add it to favourites, or another button to add to favourites?
Speaking of which, when I press the 'favourites' button in the gamelist, it just moves my selection of the game to another game in the list... over and over forever, there's nothing to indicate whether or not a game is favourited or not, is this feature not complete?
Thanks,

If you press
Start
(or the button you've mapped asStart
), it should launch the game.Speaking of which, when I press the 'favourites' button in the gamelist, it just moves my selection of the game to another game in the list... over and over forever, there's nothing to indicate whether or not a game is favourited or not, is this feature not complete?
This feature works, if you press the button you mapped to
Y
, the game should be added (or removed, if already a favorite) from the favorites. -

edit: Ah, maybe there is a misunderstanding. The
Y
button works only in the game list, not from the screensaver. So, to add the game currently shown in the screensaver, you have to first start it with thestart
button, then exit it (landing on its gamelist entry), and then add it to the favourites. -
@mitu Thanks,I'm still really confused by the favaourites though. can you only add 1 game to favourites or something? just like the guy below me says, some kind of toast notifcation saying "game added/removed from favourites" might be helpful.
Simply put, there doesn't seem to be any indicator, graphical or othwerise, whether or not a game has been favourited, and selecting favourites from non-favourites? short of filtering the game list, which takes an exhaustingly long time, why not have favourites bumped to the top of the list? Or a UI option, "Show favourited games at the top of gamelists" [y/n]?
Thanks again guys. but the favourites thing so far is nonsense to me o_o I must be missing something because the whole feature seems really lakcluster.

As @Clyde said, you need to do this from the gamelist, not from the screensaver. A notification message will appear after you do this.

@mitu I'm not nor have I ever attempted anything to do with favourites from the screensaver, seems to be a miscommunication problem here.
I am at the main retropie menu. I select, eg, Dreamcast, I get the list of games, video, text, etc, it says press Y to favourite the game, I press it, the selection jumps to another game in the list. A random game, a game I have neither played before nor hit 'favourite' on before - why is it jumping around like this?
So I scroll way back to the top of the game list, and the game at the top that I 'Favourited' is still there, with nothing to indicate that it is a favourite game or not (it wasn't at the very top just a few down so I could see if it at least moved fav'd games to the top, but nope) and we are back to where we started.
Also, I am using a USB drive with my roms on, and when Pi boots up with this external drive that has all the games on it, my "RetroPie" menu option (where you select RetroPie to access raspi-config, bluetooth, etc, which I know can be done via cmd line but bear with me) is missing!.
If I unplug the external drive and restart the system, boots up fine and my RetroPie system selection option is there. It seems using a USB drive for ROMS disables this or something? or are there "retropie" rom files I need to have on the external drive for the retropie menu option to work? Also, I take it there's no way to pick which systems to display on the screensaver yet as the menu option isn't there (don't suppose there's some config file editing I can do to get that job done?) I mean, N64/megadrive/snes/etc look great playing on a spare monitor all day but then 2 hours of amiga videos are zzz
Thanks again mitu.

What controller do you have ? It seems you're hitting
X
, which is 'go to a random game' shortcut or you have mapped the buttons the other way around. So I scroll way back to the top of the game list, and the game at the top that I 'Favourited' is still there, with nothing to indicate that it is a favourite game or not (it wasn't at the very top just a few down so I could see if it at least moved fav'd games to the top, but nope) and we are back to where we started.
The game would still be in the list, even if marked as a Favorite. There's no indication in the list that is a Favorite, but it will appear in the Favorite system from the main menu of Emulationstation.

Did you follow the docs or you did it manually ? It seems you're missing the
retropie
system on the USB drive's ROM folder., you can just copy it from the SD card to the USB drive. Also, I take it there's no way to pick which systems to display on the screensaver yet as the menu option isn't there (don't suppose there's some config file editing I can do to get that job done?) If I remember correctly, it will pick randomly from the list of games which have video scraped. If you only scraped the Amiga system with videos, then that's what is limited to.

Everything you're mentioning should work as you describe. There is a notification when a game is added to or removed from the favorites. You're likely pressing the random button.
And to launch a game, as @mitu mentions, you just press start while on the screensaver. Pressing right or pressing select again will skip to another random game/video on the screensaver.
The video screensaver will choose a random video from all the videos you have in your system.

favourites is bound to Y, I'm hitting Y and it goes to a random game - it's definitely bound correctly, I just did it again - this explains why favourites aren't working for me as they apparently should.
any chance of the ability to choose what systems to play videos from in the future? are any devs in this topic?
I'd like to get into modding retropie and frontends etc myself, there's just so much to choose from, and I can't figure out how to get that frontend manager working on my existing installation, I went to install experimental packages and it's not there or something, tried yesterday anyway. am I gonna have to wipe my install and start over with pegasus frontend?

Since that's actually the function bound to
X
, what happens when you pressX
in the gamelist?
