Working Dreamcast games

@barbudreadmon ok got it I thought I remembered something like that but wanted to be sure.
-
I finally got to reading this entire thread so I could get naomi to work.
Why was it this;< /dev/null
?I got Deadly Skies to work, it plays full speed. There are very few negligible frame skips when you line up to the densest part of the city, but it clears up by the time your weaving through buildings. Taking down an f-16 and entering the stratosphere is very cool. You can change the controls to expert mode. Also known as Airforce Delta by Konami. It didn't quite keep up before, it probably makes use of both the higher overclocks and the reicast updates.
Dragonriders: Chronicles of Pern, works in lr-reicast, slowly. Does anyone have an idea why it won't work with reicast; crashes after the first movie?
-
I don’t know if this will help anyone so just throwing it out there - in Capcom vs SNK 2 (Dreamcast) I was sering some vertical lines going through the characters sometimes in standalone and lr-reicast. Using lr-reicast, runcommand menu setting for video mode for emulator + rom as CEA 3 and then going into the Retroarch GUI in game, options, internal resolution LOWER to 320, and then running the game with the shader 2x sal (Retroarch GUI, shaders, shader passes =1, shader 0=2x sal) and then saving the shader game preset, saving game override, and in the options menu clicking on save game options file made it so these settings only applied to this game (rather than every lr-reicast rom, some of which didn’t need the lower res) and made it look really great, perform well, and not have the vertical lines. On the other hand, for instance, setting Ikuraga with the runcommand menu as CEA-1, Retroarch GUI internal resolution 640, not shader, was the best for that game. Also I have found that (odd to me because I don’t really know anything) some games look worse with frameskip on 1 then completely off (I think Ikuraga looked smoother without it). That’s another setting you want to “save game options file” for otherwise for me changes seemed to apply to across all games on lr-reicast. Just putting this out there to say these are the sorts of settings you may want to mess with if you are getting visual glitches, performance issues etc. Hope it helps someone.

Record of Lodoss War freezes after defeating an enemy, I tried .chd .gdi and reicast and lr-reicast, the game plays fine otherwise.
Has there been a solution for setting analog deadzone in reicast?
Also is there a way to resume the game in reicast after a controller drops out and is resynced, the SDL controller won't pass through anything to the emulator once this happens? -
@Efriim I think analog dead zone is a setting in lr-reicast.
I haven’t tried playing that game you are mentioning.
-
@BJRetro
Record of Lodoss War is a Diablo-esque game with 3d graphics and decent voice-acting, its unfortunate I can't slay anything without the game freezing.I read that mapping a controller through xboxdrv or xpad and using the driver's deadzone settings is a solution for using reicast and deadzone. I guess it is worth a try, I wanted to learn a bit about this for mapping analog to mouse functions when using dosbox anyway. I'll post something if I am successful.

A few more tests:
I was just doing some more testing:
-Giant Gram 2000 (Japanese wrestling) works very well on Naomi. With big 3D models I am surprised. This is with 640 resolution and frameskip on 1.
-Virtua strikers 2 rev 2000, on Naomi, same settings works well.
-Cosmic Smash on lower resolution (320), on Naomi, no frameskip works well.
A caveat to the above - I think some folks may be more sensitive to frame rate than I am. I “feel” like the above are very close to full speed and definitely at a very fun speed to play, no big pauses or stutters. But double checking on screen FPS (originally had it off) after playing for some time they fluctuate between 18 and 35 or so FPS. So it may be somewhat in the eye of the beholder.
-
@BJRetro Call me intrigued about Virtua Striker. I had played the Dreamcast version but wasn't thrilled - you're saying that the Naomi/arcade version works well, is that it?
Any specific region of the game? What BIOS do I need? I'd certainly like to try it out and compare.
-
@pjft hi yes the one I am using is .185 Mame non-merged romset, vs2_2k.zip, bios is from the same romset (bios files .zip names are those mentioned earlier in this thread for Naomi, placed in the bios/dc/ folder.), with lr-reicast. Do you already have the Es_system.cfg file edited so emulation station recognizes .zip as a game extension for lr-reicast? If not you will want to do that too. And yes for whatever reason (which has not otherwise been my experience) I was getting more stutters and freezes in Virtua Striker 2 Dreamcast than this one. Weird. But maybe individual to me....
-
@BJRetro actually let me correct that - I had tried Virtua striker 2 on lr-reicast. Standalone reicast Dreamcast version at 640 resolution selected through the runcommand menu runs pretty similar to the Naomi version on lr-reicast under the settings I mentioned above for that. So it’s likely you won’t be impressed by Naomi either but let me know what you think.

Got my new pi
still loading "_"
and quit :\ -
@shavecat is this the same image you were using on your previous pi that your cat destroyed?
-
@quicksilver
yep :) -
@shavecat well a new pi isn't going to change anything if you're using the same image as before.
-
Got it FIX !!!
was need it to add the bios DC folder in the roms folder... it worked for some reason . -

it worked for some reason .
You probably b0rked your RetroArch configuration and the
system_directory
is not set. -
@mitu
Works fine with the reicast-audio-omx.
the bios and everything else.
And its still really slow and leggy lr-reicast ,
cant really get even the game run well...(i can get in the RetroArch in the game itself... but all the loading run very slow in the game...)
any change i need to do ?(im ruining overclock 1500 ) -
@shavecat They were a few recommendations early on in the topic by @barbudreadmon - take a look at them and fiddle with the options in the RGUI.
Btw,reicast
is not a RetroArch emulator, so it's probably using the correct paths to the BIOS files. -
@mitu
Think i will give a pass to that one :
thanks
untill it will be at list not experiential -

As mentioned previously, overclock the gpu, here is an example :
arm_freq=1450 gpu_freq=500 core_freq=500 v3d_freq=500 sdram_freq=500 sdram_schmoo=0x02000020 over_voltage=6
