Hey guys I've been needing a new project to pour my time into. I've been watching Wermy's guide to making a portable system using a DMG gameboy and a raspberry pi zero running retropie. He's even made avseries of video tutorials as well as written tutorials on how to build one. I was watching them and the thought occurred to me "why can I not do this with a GBA?", my personal favorite of the gameboy family. I was hoping to bounce the idea off you guys here before l start planning. My goals are to use all the original hardware I can, including volume control and power switch. Want to remove the ext port in favor of an extention to the mini HDMI port. would then use a modded gamecube GBA cable to hold a mini HDMI male to HDMI male for video output to a monitor while still having the capability to use the GBAO as a Controller. It would also be in my ambition to create a cartridge to hold the SD card much like Wermy did with the GB cart. What do you guys think? My primary concern is space within the shell and the possibility of wanting a USB port for two player action. | was thinking that the aforementioned GC cable could hold a single USB port added to one of the inclined sides. This means I would dremel a place on
the top of the GBAO for an extention, but space is still a factor, particularly with adding two more face buttons to act as "X" and "Y" respectively. Can anyone give me their thoughts on it? Where there is a will, there is a way. I've been Sitting on this one since the zero came out.

I was planning on building a GBA zero pretty soon as well. I'm looking for a broken GBA. I won't bother with video out, two player or a cartridge though.

@jimkill Great minds think alike, though in hindsight, I'm thinking a GBA Macro might be the way to go. I'm sure I could find an original ds for cheap or just buy a revo...I'd have no qualms about ripping that thing apart.

Ha, the old GBA is getting lots of love now!

Have a look at my post

            Here

I basically got the zero working, then choose my case from there. I should be updating that as I go, so if you keep an eye on it and I might give you some ideas.

I'm not fussed on video out or 2 player, or even sound if I'm honest, but I'm sure there might be something in doing you actually like 😛
