      https://www.reddit.com/r/RetroPie/comments/b76w7f/why_isnt_drastic_2504_used/

Just saw this post recently on the retropie Reddit. It looks like retroarena has a newer version of drastic that is also compatible with retropie/raspberry pi. I tested it out and it does appear to work. Games that require a mic no longer crash and the issue with the framebuffer not clearing after exit seem to be fixed.

Is there a reason why we shouldn't use this version? I know the developer had originally intended to support the raspberry pi but for one reason or another never got around to it. But this version seems to fix a lot of bugs.

It is official? I seem to recall someone posting about some hex edit to the binary. Unless this was actually released to the public like that by the authors I can't include it. Need to make sure this isn't a hacked/modified binary.

@BuZz is there a way to find out? This version seems to fix more than just the mic issue, which might imply it's not a simple hack? Fps counter is no longer stuck at the top of the screen, framebuffer seems to clear properly now when drastic is closed etc. I would be happy to test anything out if needed.

@quicksilver Guess we need to ask the author. As this is proprietary and due to previous issues with distribution permission I would definitely want a go ahead from them/confirmation.

@BuZz yes that makes sense. I could reach out via the drastic forums, or maybe you would prefer someone of a more official capacity like one of the retropie moderators?

                      I made a post here:
                      https://drastic-ds.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=5610

Though I see something posted by the batocera team that never got a response so lets cross our fingers someone sees it.

@quicksilver It seems it is working now on the Classics : https://www.reddit.com/r/miniSNESmods/comments/b8ejuv/nintendo_ds_compatibility_drastically_improved/

Maybe there will be Retropie support ?

Exophase has given permission to use the newer version of drastic with retropie.

@BuZz is there any other testing or obstacles we need to surmount before adding it officially?

I personally have tested it on my pi 3b+ and it does allow many more games to run, the only thing I have noticed is it doesn't hide the mouse cursor while games are running. But I would say the trade off is worth it for the mic fix and proper restoration of the framebuffer upon exiting.

@quicksilver I guess not, but I will need to host it myself unless there is an official place to download it. Do you know where this build came from ? Is there a place to get the latest version as the link we use from their site still has the older version.

@BuZz so I spoke with the head of the retroarena team via discord and he stated they host the binary themselves. That they have a relationship with one of the drastic devs and apparently he put together a build for them to use specifically with the boards they support. It just so happens it also works on raspberry pi. He stated he is fine with retropie pulling from them if you are comfortable with that, they would just need to know via their discord channel or a GitHub pull request.

Some of this is a little above my head so I'm just reporting back what he said to me.

@quicksilver so im curious if the fix also will allow us to use microphones as i have one hooked up to my pi now just for this very reason hoping to try to get it working.

@edmaul69 if you follow the link in my original post you can swap the binary out manually. I'd be curious to know as well. I don't have a mic to test it.

@quicksilver using a mic is a no go. No option to disable fake mic. I tried feel the magic where you have to keep blowing into the mic to get the candles to blow out. A lot of work on a real ds. Whatever they did makes them blow out on the first blow all on its own. So if there is a game that needs to understand commands, that aint gonna happen.

Just want to say that I'm glad some progress is being made on getting this version of DraStic officially added to RetroPie. I've been using it myself for several days now and it works great, and not having to reboot my Pi after exiting DraStic if I want to use a different emulator is a huge improvement.

Exciting! The new binary shows a lot of promise and plays really well.

Did anyone ever figure out how to remove or hide the mouse pointer from the upper left of the screen?
