what games to get?!
-
@Parzival I kida like Mappy from the classic arcade games from the eighties (unfortunately I suck at it like I do at all those hard to master classic games). Back in the day I liked Moon Patrol too because I didn't "die" as fast as in Donkey Kong and Pac-Man. Donkey Kong Jr. is a must have too. Same goes for Galaga, Gyruss, Lady Bug and Ms. Pac Man.
Good luck! :-) Which new ones do you play now because we said we like 'm?
P.S. To play Galaga in certain versions of Mame you need the general Namco roms too, named "namco51.zip" and "namco51.zip".
-
@backstander this is a nice list i will make sure to get and try most of them thanks!
-
@Meneer-Jansen I also like Mappy. this was one of the first ones i got because it came in the namco classic collection rom. same with Galaga. (which is one of my top 5 favorite arcade games). I wanna see if i can try the other ones as well.

@meleu which one is that? do you have a file name?

nrallyx.zip

Get the original mario game.
-
you guys know of a working tempest rom??
-
@Parzival Yes. tempest.zip from a .106 romset works great in AdvanceMAME 1.4. You can set your display's max resolution as well as control the mouse inputs with that emulator. Works great!

Yes! That game is very interesting. I only just read about it on the other thread, but tried it and I need to get further into it. However, does it work better with analog sticks? I feel very clumsy with my 8-way arcade stick.
-
It should respond 1:1 with 8-directional controls, but MAME may have only mapped 'up', 'down' 'left' and 'right' for some reason. It might be worth investigating in the game-specific control settings to see what additional options are available.
-
@mediamogul I will look at it again. MAME definitely treats the diagonals as combined, but the game feels like it gives you finer control over that--aiming at angles other than 90 and 45 degrees I mean. Maybe it only looks that way given the isometric design. Regardless, I love the look and feel. Gameplay reminds me somewhat of Alien Syndrome in some respects.
-
@mediamogul Ok, so I guess Escape from the Planet of the Robot Monsters used an Atari "hall effect" joystick which is basically an expensive analog stick. I am betting this game plays nicely on a joypad with analog stick. With only microswitches on mine, it's a little harder to control--like playing Sinistar or Food Fight--you can do it on an 8-way but it's just not the same. :-(
Eventually, I may consider U360s to replace my venerable HAPP Supers.

Nice find! Atari was always innovating the industry in those days. I'm sure I don't have my controls as optimized as they could be. I'll have to take a look at tightening things up for some higher scores.

Do you guys have the working file name for alien vs predator?
-
@Parzival It's
avsp
. It tested OK on Pi2 by someone using AdvanceMAME (.106) but you can look it up on other game lists linked in the wiki. -
Wonderboy
Track & Field

Polybius
