I need some guidance on how I should build my arcade machine.

      Type of Machine: Stand-Up
OS: Raspberry Pi 2 Model B Running RetroPie
Monitor: Old Windows XP Dell Monitor
Controls: (I have a joystick and some buttons coming tomorrow).
Speakers: An old pair of rechargeable logitech speakers
Wood housing: I have no idea what wood I should get. I wanted kind of a darker wood for my Arcade Machine.
Marquee: Cycling LED Lighted MAME Marquee
      Power: APC Power Strip
Wire/Raspberry Pi Housing: I currently have the RPI inside a small plastic box that has holes cut into it for wires going out/in.

What type of help do you need?

I think that you need a shutdown system (remove the input current directly can damage the os). I don't have the wiring scheme (I done my system without it), but i can explain it to you if you need it (I didn't search on the net for other systems, so i don't know if mine is the best method - probably not - I used a chinese arduino, three mini relay and two program - one for arduino and another for raspberry pi).

I went with 3/4" plywood with my build its light weight and easy to work with. I see a lot of people using MDF which is fine but if you are building a full scale machine it's going to be heavy when it's finished.

A darker wood...? You mean you plan on staining it instead of painting or using vinyl overlays?

Google MDF vs Plywood for arcade. MDF is much nicer to work with for finishing, but you specifically say dark wood so I have no idea what you want the thing to look like.

Also, check this ancient site out for some chuckles and guidance on what not to do: http://www.wickedretarded.com/~crapmame/

I used plywood and stained it with black.
