      Hi,

Is it possible to set MAME to be on Free Play for ALL ROMS?

        No.

The option "Freeplay" has to be made available by the developer, in common this is done by setting the DIP-switches on the PCB or the service-options of the game.

Some had this option - some not.
Taito does support freeplay for some of their games - Data East for none.

So you have to take a look into the options of each game sepearatly - there is no "one click -> freeplay for everything"-Option given by MAME.

@sirhenrythe5th Would it be possible to map coin button to the same button as Start in the non game-specific settings in MAME itself? It might not start on the first press, but perhaps on the 2nd.

System Config: Retropie 4.4 with full desktop, RPi 3B, 256gb SD, 5v 2.1A 5,200 mAH USB battery. EasyMSX controller mounted with Pimoroni Hyperpixel 4 (non touch). Also running 4.6 on a 4gb Pi 4 serving as my primary desktop computer now.

@VictimRLSH It's possible to map the START and SELECT/COIN buttons in either RetroArch or EmulationStation to be the same button, but you'd most likely run into problems with RetroArch/EmulationStation. Pressing those start and select at the same time may exit the emulator or do other funky things. (You could use a button other than "select" for a hotkey, but I'm just using default stuff. I haven't written any custom scripts or anything.) You could try mapping the hotkey to something other than the default coin button (select). Play around with button mappings and let us know what you find.

EDIT: Retroarch has been updated to alter the hardcoded "Start and Select at the same time" shortcut.
