You, good sir/madam, are on FIRE!
Quick question tho, does the splash screen halt loading or did you time it so it covers up the boot time?
-
@Rookervik As always, an excellent splash! Good skills.
-
@ShootHere I believe RetroPie is currently set to halt until a splashscreen is finished. I timed it 25 seconds since that's about how long it takes my Pi2 to get to the EmulationStation screen.
-
Well but I sort of meant that it continues loading in the background and only pops to ES when the video is done?
-
@ShootHere Correct
-
Looking at your different entries I must say they are flippin' gorgeous.
Thank you for all your effort!
-
Added to the Randomizer project! :D
-
Nice!
@Rookervik Sorry to post this in this thread but are there any plans for your Pixel Theme to support Child friendly EmulationStation in the near future?
-
@Rion Hey Rion. I am not sure what Child Friendly ES does differently. I doubt it would be hard to edit pixel to work with it. Let me know what needs to be changed.

From my understanding there is not much that needs to be changed. It's all in the wiki page Child friendly EmulationStation Themes
If there is more than that i am sure @zigurana knows.
Thank you for taking the time to look in to supporting Child Friendly ES. :)

What is it missing that needs to be shown? Pixel doesn't show metadata. Perhaps the help text at the bottom to mark it as a kid game? I don't have the kids version so I have no way to test it, sadly.

I don't think you have to have metadata support at all. Just changes to the gamelist.xml
From the wiki page i linked to
If you want in include this in your own theme, these are the items to add:
<image name="md_hidden"> <pos>0.17 0.165</pos> <path>./../art/hidden.svg</path> <maxSize>0.06 0.045</maxSize> <origin>0 0</origin> </image> <image name="md_kidgame"> <pos>0.10 0.16</pos> <path>./../art/teddy.svg</path> <maxSize>0.06 0.06</maxSize> <origin>0 0</origin> </image> <image name="md_favorite"> <pos>0.03 0.165</pos> <path>./../art/heart.svg</path> <maxSize>0.045 0.045</maxSize> <origin>0 0</origin> </image>
The corresponding images are in the folder carbon_v4\art. Of course, the values for pos and sizes will depend on the theme.
I hope this helps. I am willing to test it :)

Those particular theme.xml codes will add 3 icons to the systems... favorite, kids, and hidden. Right now, there is no where to place those icons inside the Pixel theme. All of the space is used. Another problem is that if I make room for the icons, then everyone will have a gap that does not use the kid friendly version of ES. So I'd need to create a separate theme with the kid friendly tags. I would really rather not have to maintain a 3rd theme since I already update Carbon and Pixel as it is.
If you have an idea where you'd like the icons to go, I could edit the pixel.xml and send you a copy with the icons in that position for you to use. I would only add the kid friendly section to Pixel if there were dozens of people asking for it... since everyone would be forced into using it.
Keep in mind, nothing could be moved. The kid-friendly icons would go in front of or behind objects already on the screen. Removing the flair text and console image will require editing every system xml file, since they are customized per system.

I'm only speaking for myself now but others that use kid friendly version of ES probably would agree with me on this.
Frankly I don't need the extra icon's. I can change all these settings from the settings menu (start button) Hidden and Kidgame are only applied in kiosk & kid mode.
If a game is hidden it will only show up in full mode.
Thank you for looking in to this :)

I plan to spruce up the pixel theme after it starts feeling old. I'll keep in mind these icons and make sure they have room. And place them in a way that it wouldn't cause issues for people that don't use kid friendly. Though, testing the theme would be impossible for me since I don't have that version of ES. I'd have to work with the author.

I can't speak for @zigurana but I would be happy to test for you.

@Rookervik Hey thank you Rookervik, this was exactly what I searched for for my Nintendo 64 build :)
I tuned the colors for my purpose, so it pops a little more and has some slight retro feeling. Also I made a shorter 15s version because the pi3 boots so fast.
And I used it to create my custom cover art for the rom-cartridge.
I hope you don't mind that I share these versions!
