Updated Retropie - No Menu Sounds
-
@KiloPIE
I just think It's absurd a system like retropie, of which It's core principles are to give people multiple options and ease of use, and patch by patch keeps getting more customizable, has had something like menu sounds removed with no option implemented to toggle them back on. Especially when there was an option to turn them off when they were on by default.
Also I don't see how this can be compared to the video smoothing change, which does have an easy to access option to toggle on/off...
You should demand a refund!

Ok, fixed several things. For one, the sound will play again. Sorry for removing it, I was under the impression that there was no way to silence it from ES. I do apologize.
Second, fixed the retropie menu. I had errantly overwritten the customized theme.xml with a regular system, thereby losing the custom formatting for this menu. It is fixed now. I removed the icon background to comply with Raspberry Pis with a 128 MB RAM split.
I updated the readme.txt with a little extra information, that is, if you're familiar with Linux and the command line. If you are not familiar with Linux, I would not mess with editing the theme.
PS, I was not fully aware that the new Carbon theme was live for everyone to use. I haven't even had time to get the developers to test it. I know my personal themes can be uploaded when I ask, but a system-default theme I'd like to get tested pretty well before going live with it. Sorry you guys.
Herb has been busy moving and hasn't had time for testing lately. I'll try to contact him and have him update the theme. Otherwise, dun-dun-dun, I will bother Jools. NOOOO!!!!! (hides)

I'm happy to do the update. Cheers!

Hey, sorry about my comment calling the decision to take the sound away weird, i didnt mean for it to come off as rude. didnt know you were unaware of the disable option.
I just tried to run an update from the ES Theme option in retropie, to update carbon to the fixed one, but im still stuck on the no sound version. it wont update.
did the update go live? -

You think you feel bad. . .mine was the first comment when this theme update started and I complained about the sound--but I actually like it, I just thought it was louder than it should be relative to the emulators. In any case, the activity here by everyone involved is nothing short of amazing! It's really fun to be a part of the community here and participating in RetroPie's evolution.

I love the RetroPie community, too. It's a lot of fun interacting with everyone.
As far as if the update went live, I'd say probably not. Herb is moving, and Jools is still at work. Be patient young ones. Hehe. If you want to jump the gun (and possibly find more bugs since we haven't tested it well, yet) here's a link to the theme I sent Jools.
Note: If you don't know how to manually install a theme, please don't grab this. Just wait on the developers to get time to get home from work and have a beer. :D

Okay so I am trying to add a custom .wav as "scroll.wav" but I cannot find the .wav file. I downloaded WinSCP and I can see a TON more folders than I did using just the Windows Network and tapping into the cabinet that way.
I see this readme.txt telling me to replace scroll.wav in /etc/emulationstation/themes/carbon but again, no .wav file to be found.
Update: Ahh I think I see it in the art folder. I am trying to back it up in case this doesn't work I don't just overwrite it. I was able to move a copy of it over to my PC. Now when I try to replace it in the art folder with my custom sound it says permission denied.

The SSH server doesn't allow root login to give sufficient privileges for file transfers to sensitive parts of the system. You can follow the steps here, or transfer the file to your home directory via SSH and then continue moving it locally using
sudo mv /home/pi/scroll.wav /path/to/art/folder/scroll.wav

This hasn't been implemented yet, correct?
