Will the Bezel Project overwrite my current.cfg files?
-
I have an official retropie (4.4) build on my rpi 3 b+ that I’ve meticulously configured over the past couple years. I have changed numerous config files to work with my home built control panel. I’m thinking of adding bezels with The Bezel Project. My question is “will it delete or alter any of my controller or shader settings for certain emulators/games?”
Here are a few example .cfg files I’m worried about being overwritten./home/pi/RetroPie/roms/arcade/1942.zip.cfg
/opt/retropie/config/arcade/retroarch.cfgAny help would be appreciated.

From what I've seen, for individual game, the Bezel Project uses the RetroArch's configuration override feature, by creating an overlay config in
/opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch/<core_name>/<game_name>.cfg
(see an example here).
It doesn't overwrite RetroPie's ROM folder configuration (/opt/retropie/config/arcade/retroarch.cfg
) or any of the.cfg
file in the ROM folders.
So, referring to the 2 configuration examples above, I don't think they'll be impacted. Anyway, take a backup before adding the bezels, just to be safe. Make sure you have enough free space, since the they take quite some space (just the MAME bezels take more than 1Gb).
Contributions to the project are always appreciated, so if you would like to support us with a donation you can do so here.
