[ES Theme] Nostalgia Pure
-
@GeekOB That's awsome ! I'm interested by your "Nostalgia Pure Lite" version ! I'm currently stuck with Showcase theme and I'd like to upgrade to something more... aesthetically up to date.
-
@GeekOB +1 for Nostalgia Pure Lite :)
-
Thanks @gavmacmac and @Yobiwan. I would love to post it, but I really need @Frakatchoo's permission first, it's his work.
-
@GeekOB No problem, share the link and I add it to the first post ;)
All the systems you are talking about (CD32,Channel F,Openbor,...) are available and downloadable from the launchbox forum. -
Will this actually work on a Rpi4 8gb via Retropie latest 4.6.x build?

The important factor is the version of Emulationstation
Will it work on the official ES that comes with Retropie 4.6 ?
No.
it will only work on a Fork of Emulationstation that supports videos on system view.
-
The idea of replacing system view videos with png images was something I read up in a previous post on this thread! I wasn’t sure if this was implemented in the theme already or needed to be done manually in order for this theme to work on Rpi4 Retropie!?
-
The "Lite" version is still missing some screens/systems that I couldn't find on the Launchbox Community Forums. Hopefully the community can help creating these using the assets in the links you provided:
- Custom Collections
- All Games
- Pixel/Raspbian Desktop
- Setup/Configuration
- ResidualVM
- Ports
I also renamed some systems so that they would work with my testing. Feel free to rename to fit your own setups.

Yeah, i read that too and tested it .. sure it works if you replace video with an image (png, jpg, gif etc)
I thought you were asking about the Original Unmodified "Nostalgia Pure" Theme.

The Lite theme looks great, and seems to work fine. I particularly like the period-appropriate TV/monitors for each console - that's a really nice touch.
-
Having said that, the lite theme seems fine when you boot up emulationstation, but if you play a game for a bit and then quit out to the main menu, it seems to struggle a bit. The background images can sometimes take a while to appear, and keep fading in and out. The small button icons at the bottom of the screen tend to flicker on and off as well.
-
Yes @Ka, I noticed that as well. For me it happens if I scroll really quickly through the screens.
What Raspberry Pi Model are you using and how with much RAM?
Maybe @mitu or other dev can suggest memory setting tweaks to optimize.I guess the lite theme itself could be further optimized by splitting the PNG files used and just have the smaller screen area that actually changes to cycle through the different systems, but that would take longer and I opted for a faster fix.
-
@GeekOB I'm using a Pi4 with 4 gig of memory.
-
Same here @Ka

@GeekOB Link added to the first post ;)

I really, really like this. I'm trying out the Lite version currently. Unfortunately, it seems to be missing a few systems, such as C64 (has the image, but no logo or description), Ports, Macintosh, VideoPac, and Z-Machine, as well as a RetroPie setup theme. Aside from that, this is easily my favorite theme I've seen so far and I'd really like to see these added so I can use it properly.
-
@GeekOB Definitely! Hope that someone can create these missing assets such as All games, setup etc... can't wait for it.
-
The best theme :)
PS.
Setup and ports are black in lite only this need fix ;) -
@ZzackK actually setup and ports have no background, this is why we see it as black background
-
@Lendersmark Raspberry pi4 will be good hardware for background for setup ;)
Another thing. Can I ask for alternative background for Amiga with model A500?
