8Bitdo NES30 PRO Worth It?
-
Hi guys,
I currently use a couple of iBuffalo USB SNES pads on my Pi3 and was considering getting a couple of bluetooth 8Bitdo pads. However, I seem to see a huge number of threads on here with people having connection issues with these.
Are they really that hard to set up?
-
No, they are lovely, get one.
Plus the changes to RetroPie since 3.8.1 make connecting them even easier. You'll have issues if you want to get PS3 controllers working with them as their Bluetooth drivers conflict.

@Floob thanks for the reply Floob. I won't be using PS3 pads so that won't be an issue. I saw a thread where someone had an issue with a second pad I think? Normally when I use the Pi it's when my friend calls over for co op games.

I havent tried 2 identical controllers yet, but I'm pretty sure it should be fine. I'll try and fish mine out.

Does that mean trying to use 1 8bitdo controller and 1 ps3 controller at the same time? Or just having them all paired to the same device has issues, even if they aren't being used at the same time?
I have 2 ps3 controllers set up, and was planning on getting 2 8bitdo controllers. I was going to use the 8bitdo as my main controllers, pulling out the ps3 mainly for psx games, so I wouldn't really be using 1 of each at the same time.

@mattrixk If you have the PS3 bluetooth stack/drivers installed there will be conflicts. I'm not sure of a way around it at the moment.
To quote Buzz
The PS3 driver is incompatible with the built in bluetooth stack, and you do not use bluetoothctl. When installing the ps3 driver (sixpair), the default bluetooth stack is actually disabled (it is re-enabled if you remove the ps3 driver)
If you can get the PS3 controller working using bluetoothctl then it may work.

@Floob
Huh, that's interesting. I'm glad I found that out before I got the 8bitdo controllers, as the ps3 do everything I need (I just wanted the retro controller feel). Thanks for the heads up. -
@mattrixk the 8-bitdo controllers are nice and two of them work fine together for me. I wont use my ps3 controller wirelessly until this gets straightened out but for me i am ok using it wired. Although i feel the playstation 1, 2 and 3 controllers are better for ps1 games.

@edmaul69 good to hear two 8bits work fine wirelessly. I wanted to get a pair of controllers for some Dr Mario 2-player action.
