This news dropped yesterday. I wondered what effect this update will have on Retropie users.

I update the underlying OS packages few hours ago and i didn't notice something different from before or any problem so far. My suggestion is to backup the system or wait few days to see if any problem arise.

@windg I'm using KMS with the legacy sound drivers so I'm keen to avoid complications.

sounds like something to avoid like the plague the switch on pulseaudio

@myzar I was reluctant for this reason. The potential to have to reset all my audio settings was daunting.
So I made a backup and did it anyway. My Pi still works with the same settings. I have not attempted to use Pulseaudio at all.

From what I've tested, PulseAudio is not installed automatically during an upgrade, unless you also have the desktop (formerly knows as Pixel) installed.

@mitu Thanks, I have an official Pi 4 Retropie build, modified for KMS and using legacy audio.
I was surprised that the MESA did not update at all (from 19.3.2.1) but I'm not overly concerned by this.
