Only recently started using Retropie on my barrel arcade but thought I'd chuck it up here see what you guys think. Might have seen it kicking round the traps already. Just love playing round and improving it... heaps of fun. From another angle...

That's unique and fun looking! :) How's the glass table top attached? What does it weigh roughly? @thedudester80 I like the idea of a DK themed barrel.

Hey @thedudester80 and @Riverstorm, yeah DK themed ones are good and they are around. I actually took inspiration from this one, but varied it as i wanted to have the ability to play fighting games rather than just a cocktail style. There is also this one... which I'm not a massive fan of. What i was really after was something that just looked like a bar that upon closer inspection, gave a bit of a "oh" moment. Sits pretty proudly on my decking, totally home in its surroundings.

@Riverstorm The glass top just sits on there, it weighs a fair bit and sits on top a non-slip rubber edging. The overhang is not enough to give it enough leverage to ever tip, was very conscious of that. As for the weight of the whole thing... yeah its heavy. If i had to guess, maybe 60kg in total. It certainly doesnt move around when people are wrenching the joysticks and going nuts on it. I have to use a sack truck to move it around, there is no lifting it given the size.

              Fun times.

@thedudester80 I live in a city that has a very active wine region so use barrels are pretty much a dime a dozen and can be picked up from hardware/surplus stores pretty easily... i definitely dont have the skills, or tools to make one myself. :)

Here is a link to an album with the build progression.

@TheStrayMongrel I agree the second one isn't as neat. A real joystick with buttons to capture the true arcade spirit is a must. My youngest girl is a stage where she like to hang on things, always testing things out. It seems impossible how well arcade machines held together back in the day with all that tugging and pulling on joysticks. :) A great show piece for sure.

I totally agree @Riverstorm. Thats one thing that surprises me a little about this, the amount of people that use game pads. I know theyre much much easier to set up but playing something like Galaga, Wonderboy, Streetfighter or any mame games for that matter on those is just not the same (everything else console, yeah sure i understand that).
