retroarch msx cheats
-
****I have been researching in the forum so as not to repeat the question and doing tests on my 2 raspberries and I have not found a solution nor have I seen anything about it.
My raspberries are:
3b+
4b+
and the tests have been done on:
retropie 4.8.4
emulation station 2.11.1 RP
retroarch 1.10.0In others like batxxx and recaxxxx it works but here I can't get it to do it, and I prefer retropie to any other, can you help me?, thanks
Any other information do not hesitate to ask me, it will be a pleasure****

You forgot to mention which libretro-core you use.
The most obvious choice would be lr-bluemsx, correct ?Looking at the libretro-docs cheats are not supported by the lr-bluemsx core :
https://docs.libretro.com/library/bluemsx/ :
RetroArch Cheats ✕
Native Cheats ✕If you really want cheats for msx you can use lr-mess (or mame) and use my project :
https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/29682/development-of-module-script-generator-for-lr-mess-lr-mame-and-mame-standalone
Install for examplehbf700p
. (Sony msx2)
In the front-end module-script you can download and install the cheats file from :
http://cheat.retrogames.com/mame_downloads.htmIf you manually unpack the
XML Cheat Collection for MAME 0.245 (Release Date: 9th July 2022)
file,
you will be able to find which game for msx has a cheat. (or browse that forum)I never tested the cheats for msx myself but I think it will work.
Edit :
I tested 1942 with hx10 (Toshiba HX10 MSX1) with both mame and lr-mess with the basename runcommands and the mame-cheats worked. -
@Folly
Thanks for answering, if I forgot to put the version, I don't know what version it is, according to the binary information, it was compiled 2022-07-21.
I had read this information https://docs.libretro.com/library/bluemsx/ and I was surprised because In others like baxxxx and recxxxxx the lr-bluemsx cheats work in retroarch.
I will try what you tell me, to see if I understand it correctly, thanks. -

Cheats should be available for Libretro - https://github.com/libretro/libretro-database/tree/master/cht/Microsoft - MSX - MSX2 - MSX2P - MSX Turbo R. Did you follow the steps in the docs to download them first ?
-
Oysters, I hadn't read this, the tricks I was using are the ones generated by retroarch when updating online in the, Thanks, I'll read it how to do it.
edit: checked I followed the steps and they don't work

Specifically, which step doesn't work ? You'll have to add more details to your posts.
-
Download the chat from the page and copy it where the guide indicates, in this case /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch/cheats/bluemsx/goonies.cht,
I launched the game, I went with the hotkey to show the retroarch, quick menu, cheats, add cheat in this case in the bluemsx folder, activate the cheats that interested me, apply, and click on the option to close the retroarch to to continue, I requested the a button to start and I saw that the cheats were not activated
it's like i ignored them
-
It's the Apply after toggle option turned on in the Cheats menu ?
-
if you press it before closing the retroarch to continue, the previous step was to select the cheats that appear after selecting goonies.cht
Although in this image the 2 options above apply deactivated, I activate them and then apply changes
-
Try using a different core then (
fmsx
), maybe indeed, BlueMSX doesn't support cheats.
You were using the same core on Recalbox/Batocera ? -
Yes, bluemsx, ok I have tried with fmsx and the game does not load, the screen stays black
-
fmsx
may need the BIOS files placed in certain folder. If you were using the same cheats/core before, I don't know why it's not working. I advise you to update your system and get the latest version of the core and RetroArch. -
thanks for helping me i will try
Edit: put the bios on, the game loads but the cheats still don't work, I've read that retroarch and fmsx cheats are not compatible
-
If correct and up to date it seems that lr-fmsx doesn't support cheats either :
https://docs.libretro.com/library/fmsx/ :
RetroArch Cheats ✕
Native Cheats ✕lr-fbneo seems to support cheats but it can only emulate msx1 :
https://docs.libretro.com/library/fbneo/ :
RetroArch Cheats ✔
Native Cheats ✔Very strange that there are cheats available but that the core don't seem to support them.
I will try some stuff when I can.
-
The strange thing is that it doesn't work in retropie and if in batocera/recalbox, but just try bluemsx, I'll try lr-fbneo

You mean it works with lr-bluemsx in batocera and recallbox ?
-
correct
Edit: images belonging to batocera v35, bluemsx and the cheats obtained from retroarch
-
Both Batocera/Recalbox and RetroPie use the same BlueMSX core from the upstream libretro project - there's no difference here.
I'm a bit puzzled, since the core doesn't seem to support Cheats at all - the cheat related functions are just stubs and they are not implemented in BlueMSX. I also tested on another platform (Windows) and the cheats behave similarly as on RetroPie. -
Hello, I understand, but how can you compare the first photos that belonged to Retropie and the last ones from Batocera? Differences can be seen.
These photos are the beginning of the game

Leaving aside the menu driver difference (XMB vs. Ozone), the only difference I see is the version of BlueMSX - RetroPie has a newer version (Jul 2022) than the other systems (Feb 2022), which doesn't account for much, since there's only 1 commit between the 2 dates.
