Putting full rom sets on is a total waste of space and time. Who plays them all? I just put on thr games I want, plus a random every now and then for some new discovery

Two nights ago I was playing 'Barbie' for the NES. If it wasn't for me, she would have never made it to the Fantasy Ball. I suppose you'll tell me that was a waste of time. Like my parents aren't going to have another fiftieth wedding anniversary any time soon.

@mediamogul I stand corrected. Fill your SD cards away! :)

I am the exact opposite. I like to have full sets for every system possible.
I have them arranged in alphabetized folders, so finding specific games is very quick and easy.I like it this way, because it's fun to go through top ten lists or watch YouTube videos to find interesting games to play, and when I find one I want to try, it's right there.
Another advantage is that when I have friends or family over, they can find all their favorite games easily too.
Whenever I have company, I switch on the arcade cabinet and the retro console and my guests can have at it.
I actually tried out my new Retropie console for the first time last weekend, and it was a real hit.
None of the games my guests played would have been on there if I hadn't just put all of them on. I had never even heard of most of them. -
Just get a 64GB SD card. Not all romsets are that big. the entire NES USA romset is like 250MB. I have full romsets for NeoGeo( + CPS1 and CPS2), NES, SNES, Gameboy, Gameboy Color, GBA, MAME 0.78, Sega Genesis. The only roms which are using a lot of space are the PSX games but last time I checked the complete romset of PSX is 1.36TB.
It's like @jamesbeat said, sometimes I just load a random game and play it for a while sometimes you find fun games and sometimes you'll have those I-cannot-believe-people-payed-for-this-crap moments.
Couple days ago my brother was playing a Japanese Quiz game on the MAME. I told him, do you know even what you're doing? He said yes I know the answers. It's A he said. And I said how do you know so? He said cheats and kept playing happily after I left the room laughing.
EDIT: Oh yeah have I told you already yet that I own ALL these games LEGALLY :D?

64GB is more than enough if you are going for complete sets for games that are not disc based. Once you dip your toes into the ISO pool, then you will start to have issues with space.

I have my big games running from my NAS which is great, but won't help me much if I ever take my Pi to a friend's house. I need to set up a portable hard drive.
-
@mattrixk maybe just a thumbdrive or a small 1-2TB one

Yahuh. I use my RPi mainly as a media center, with all my tv and movies on my NAS (I have a Kodi/RetroPie dual boot setup). I'm planning on getting a 1TB HD and another SD card, put a bunch of movies, tv shows and games on the HD, make a duplicate of my current setup and point everything at the HD instead of my NAS.

I've started with full packs. After playing allmost every game on a pc emulator, I've started to transfer the games I liked, If you have a lot of systems in mind you will have a fun weekend.
