On the tip of my joystick

I'm sure we've all been there... you remember playing a game as a kid but have no idea what it's called. Figured we could start a topic to help each other rediscover those lost games for the sake of nostalgia.
I'll start. If you have no idea what games these are but still want to ask about yours, go right ahead.

I remember playing a dos game in the early 90's where you travel in space. The view is from the cockpit of a spaceship, and you can go into hyperspace/drive. When you do that, it looks like the old screensaver with stars (dots) zipping past. You can run into other spaceships and attack them, which is turn based. The graphics were very limited. It was mostly a text based game. I've googled many times for it and I guess space exploration was big back in the day because there's a ton of games. I simply can't find the one I'm looking for. I suspect it's from the 80's.

The other game I'm trying to find is a PC game where you get to create a scene. You add a location, actors, and give those actors some type of action to performs. You can add dialogue, which the program would say back in a computer voice. I think it would be from 1995-1998. I seem to remember it was a CD, and we played it at school. It wasn't 3D in the truest sense. It was just a background picture with sprites. I think we even used one of those old school CD caddies for the CD rom.

That wouldn't be Steven Spielberg's Director's Chair would it? If not, it might be on this list.
