What Scanlines do you use if any?
-
Currently I'm using the Gameboy grid for PSP, Gameboy and Gameboy Color and CRT Vertical scanlines for everything else.
I was wondering what others are using and what they find to be the best scanline filter.
-
@PopetheRevXXVIII not sure why you are using a vertical filter unless you are using a vertical screen? I use the shader crt-pi. That gives good scanlines. I dont use video smooth or any overlays. The crt-pi shader does pretty good on its own for me.
-
They look exactly the same to me. I did go back to CRT Pi for everything. Only emulators I use smoothing on is PSP and PS1 because no other filter looked right.
-
I use CRT.pi (horizontal) for everything but I only play games from larger formats such as Sega Genesis, SNES, Arcade, Neo Geo.
There is a new shader called verticalCRT.pi which I am trying to implement in my system for vertical games only but am having a bit of trouble.
-
It would be nice to be able to choose filters by game rather than by emulator. Some PS1 games need them, but other PS1 games just look horrible with them.
-
I'm different than most. I never really was a fan to scanlines in emulators. I can understand why many like it. Sometimes I too miss the good old CRT look and feel. I guess I'm the type that would just see if I can find a decent CRT at one of our local thrift shops sometime.

@PopetheRevXXVIII You can add shaders and overlays on a game by game basis if you want (if its a libretro core)
-
@Floob Oh? I haven't figured out how to do that yet.

I don't know if he's on here but ishtaracademy on Reddit came up with a really nice shader preset the other day:
- (0) BSNES Gamma Ramp - Nearest
- (1) SNES HiRes Blend - Linear
- (2) LCD 3x - Linear
He posted some screenshots at:
Full thread at: https://www.reddit.com/r/RetroPie/comments/53kg0z/so_as_blasphemous_as_this_sounds_is_there_a_way/d7u5fse
This is a saved shader preset file you can use to easily try it out:
/opt/retropie/emulators/retroarch/shader/ishtar_academy.glslp shaders = "3" feedback_pass = "0" shader0 = "/opt/retropie/emulators/retroarch/shader/shaders/bsnes_gamma_ramp.glsl" filter_linear0 = "false" wrap_mode0 = "clamp_to_border" mipmap_input0 = "false" alias0 = "" float_framebuffer0 = "false" srgb_framebuffer0 = "false" shader1 = "/opt/retropie/emulators/retroarch/shader/shaders/snes-hires-blend.glsl" filter_linear1 = "true" wrap_mode1 = "clamp_to_border" mipmap_input1 = "false" alias1 = "" float_framebuffer1 = "false" srgb_framebuffer1 = "false" shader2 = "/opt/retropie/emulators/retroarch/shader/shaders/lcd3x.glsl" filter_linear2 = "true" wrap_mode2 = "clamp_to_border" mipmap_input2 = "false" alias2 = "" float_framebuffer2 = "false" srgb_framebuffer2 = "false"

You create a file with .cfg at the end and put it in the same folder as your rom.
So if the game is 1942.zip, the config file is 1942.zip.cfg, then you just put the relevant shader or overlay instructions in that file as you would in any other retroarch config file.
