Retropie Metadata Editor
-
@FrankBennedetto
RME only stores data in stores data only in the application configuration xml file (RetropieMetadataEditor.exe.config.xml) and need no installation.-
can you open \retropie\roms\megadrive in your explorer from the same machine, which runs RME? Did you see your roms?
-
how a your rom files named? can you tell me a sample with exact casing?
-
which version of RME did you use? 0.1.11.0 BETA is the latest I think.
Sorry, traces or logs are not written. Only the stuff you can read in the textbox...
-
-
@amadeus Do you have plans to make this work only with emulationstation+retroarch for the windows pleb like me?
Edit: Sry, it actually works, my bad.
-
@amadeus I decided to delete all of my ROMs (plus images and gamelist.xml) and add just one ROM. Scraped it, and loaded up ES to make sure it was there. Same result. The file name was this:
3 Ninjas Kick Back.gen
I'm using the latest version (0.1.11.0). And yes, I can see the ROMs if I navigate to the folder in Windows Explorer.
-
@FrankBennedetto
Hmmm...files ending with .gen doesn't show up as a supported extension for the Megadrive/Genesis emulators on the RetroPie wiki:
https://github.com/retropie/retropie-setup/wiki/Genesis-MegadriveNot to say those emulators don't support it but it isn't documented on the wiki and I'm sure @amadeus used these wikis to know what files to look for.
I'd recommend changing the extension to .smd .bin or .md and then test RME.
update
I looked in the EmulationStationes_systems.cfg
file and under Megadrive it is configured to look for files with the .gen extension! So @amadeus will need to update his program to see files ending with .gen in the/home/pi/RetroPie/roms/megadrive
folder. -
@backstander Son of a gun. That did it.
Every single one of my files is .gen. They're recognized by ES, every scraper I've used (ES, Sselph, and UXS), and play just fine. It was only RME that didn't seem to like them. I renamed the file to .bin, scraped it without issue, and RME found the file.
I'll restore everything back with new names and should be in business. Thanks a ton!
-
@backstander
you are totally right: I used the wiki documentation to know, what files rme has to look for.
I will add .gen as accepted extension for megadrive in the next release. -
@amadeus Actually, good point. I moved everything over to Arcade. THX
-
thanks god for such an app, i really like the idea of managing my roms in PC rather in retropie
as some guys mentioned, merques and video preview are a good future achievment, and i will be happy to help you with testing any giving time.
thank you

i noticed one small silly issue,
i downloaded the first version to tryit out, i make my own changes to rom path and such
then i deleted it and downloaded a latest version, i noticed that my prev changes still stickyou should include a "default" setting so if we screw up you can fix it, and
you should allow a way to include (defualt path ) and (custom path)another thing that most current users have Gamelist inside rom folders along with boxart and media
so a SNES rom folder will include boxart,merques, snaps, flyers(usually same as boxart) <----those are in folders each and then roms and gamelisti would be great to be able to ready from gamelist and from romlist (attract mod) and away to copy info from one to another
attract mode romlist are not in system roms but in .attractmode\romlist
waiting on your commend
-
@Dukafleed
Look on your Computer in Folder C:\Users<YOUR LOGIN NAME>\AppData\Local\RetropieMetadataEditor and delete the folder and files you find there. The configuration you made will be gone. But a Button „Restore Default Configuration“ ist a good Idea. I will note it on the Change Request List.I will make the Path Gamelist dynamically – like the Path Images already is. I guess, this will help the people which hold their gamelist on another path as the dafault location.
I really dont understand what you mean with „attracted mode“ and romlist. I never heared of it before, but Im also not so familar like with retroipie and stuff like the other people her. I jsut download and use it. Is there any documentation about this attracted mode and the romelist? -
Latest Release: Retropie Metadata Editor v0.1.12.0
CHANGE LOG
- Added .gen as supported Extension for SEGA Mega Drive / Genesis
- Path Roms in the configuration is now more generic
- Path Gamelists in the configuration is now more generic
-
@amadeus
thank you for the quick response,
regarding retropie, the gaming environment is based on Emulation station, the current update uses gamelist.xml for metadata .. this file are "now" located inside each systems rom folderfor example SNES gamelist will be inside ...pi\home\roms\snes as gamelist.xml
also i like to explain that with the new theme updates in Emulationstation, you can view games metadata, game video snap (few seconds of gameplay as an mp4), game margue(game logo) and game artwork(poster) all within the system rom "like Snes"
now were done with basic emulation station and into attract modeattract mode is a new front of emulationstation (new way to view game system and roms) meaning the retropie will boot directly to attract mode (not emulationstation) and from there, i would pick my game system and then my game and play as if i was in emulationstation.....
attract mode uses the same rom collection and folders..with art work, video snaps and game logo but it does not pull the game info from gamelist.xml but, it uses something call romlist (Atari 5200.txt - Microsoft MSX.txt and so on) those romlist are location in pi\home.attract\romlist
those romlist files are similar in database structure to gamelist.xml and should be easy to understand if you pull the data from those to an excel file..more about attract mode here http://attractmode.org/docs/Readme.html
sorry for the long post
-
also, i would like if you add a new feature in the "Editor" to be able to automaticly "pull or update" game meta from http://thegamesdb.net/ using filename or hashtag or with a simple manual seatch by ID or by name ID
thegamesdb.net API is the right place for your next stage -
@amadeus
Actually Attract Mode is an alternative front end to EmulationStation:
https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/93/attract-mode-with-retropie-alternative-to-emulationstation -
@Dukafleed
sorry, but unfortunately, I have neither the time nor the knowledge to implement support for attracted mode or thegamesdb.net in RME. I do not even manage to get NeoGeo or MAME Roms on my Retropie to run... ;-)
Perhaps someone else has interest in implementing these features? If so, then do not hesitate to get a codeplex account and write me a mail. I will add you as developer to the rme project. -
@amadeus Can we expect video and marquees tags support in the future? Thanks for this great tool.
-
@Nismo
Because i dont use video or marquees tags in my retropie installation, I have no way to test it. I will only implement the features (in the future) I collected on the Feature Request List.
The same here as I already wrote to Dukafleed: Maybe someone other has interest to implement it? Feel free to contact me.
Sorry, but my child and my job consume most of my time... :/ -
@amadeus Almost can you make the editor doesn't delete videos and marquees entries if they exist? Thanks again.
-
@Nismo
Can you pastbin me a XML sample? -
You guys are incredible
