Are you running a real-time clock for a Pi not connected to the Internet?

I'm starting to piece together a handheld and most of the time it won't have access to the Internet, so the Pi's clock wont' be updated when it boots. Is it worth the effort to add a real-time clock (RTC)? Are you running a RTC on a non-Internet connected RetroPie project? If not, have you seen any bad side effects?

@obsidianspider I've never personally seen a Pi with the RTC added but I was thinking of adding one to mine because at the time I was playing a lot of Dreamcast games and as you probably already know, without an RTC chip, Reicast asks you for the date & time every time you load up a game and it's very annoying lol. I decided not to get one because I was worried it wouldn't fit in my case and I didn't want to buy a new case. I've read that some people add RTC chips if they mainly use KODI so that it will show the actual time. I haven't read about any side effects.
If you're planning on using Reicast & KODI on this handheld then I'd say give it a shot. If not then I'm not sure what other benefits there are with the RTC.

@backstander Weird that those wouldn't pull from the system time which is updated when you boot up if you have an Internet connection.
I was thinking more along the lines of save states getting messed up.

I think the Reicast issue is something it does in the code for the RTC but I'm sure someone could update the code to look at the system time instead on the Raspberry Pi.
I've had my Pi on and off the internet and I've never had any issues with save states or anything related to emulating games. Even KODI will play locally saved media without issues.
I've been throwing around the idea of building a bartop for my brother for his shop. Him & his friends spend most of their time there and he doesn't have internet there but he does have internet on his phone. I don't have the money to build it right now but I was thinking of adding a RTC to it because it won't be online all the time but if he needs to connect to the internet, he can turn his phone into a hotspot and connect the RPi3 to it.

I'm going to be buying one of these https://www.amazon.com/SunFounder-DS3231-Precision-Raspberry-Arduino/dp/B00HF4NUSS/ref=pd_rhf_gw_p_img_5?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=2W3BY4QZJ3XJNV3N1YXX for my Pi in a PS2 Slim project. its small enough and higher precision which is what I care about.
Contributions to the project are always appreciated, so if you would like to support us with a donation you can do so here.
