pushbullet or alternative onscreen notifier

hi guys.
my job (and wife) require me to be allways chequing for e-mails and whatssap or phone calls...is there a way for me to display onscreen notifications so i can play using the volume to the 100% without feeling i'm missing something important?
as i'm new to this, i can't tell if this should be done by emulation station, or retroarch or libretro ... thanks in advance

I'm interested in this too...
plus, would be nice to have the achievements from retroachievements as smooth notification instead of the ugly yellow text in the bottom corner... but that I will ask on retroarch forum :3
