@Rookervik Pretty much all of what you say is true. You can control the z-index of any
extra="true"
content by it's placement in the XML, but I'd also like to be able to control the metadata elements the same way (like being able to place the gamelist in front of the "md_image").<maxSize> on videos would be great, but unfortunately we're currently stuck with <size>. I also don't like that "md_video" and "md_image" take the same size. It works fine if you have screenshots in the <image> tag, but if you have box art then they stretch to the video ratio, which looks bad for portrait boxes.

@Rookervik This discussion inspired me to dig into the code and see what I could do to fix some of these problems. I have a working implementation to add maxSize to videos. I need to clean it up and would like to run it by @fieldofcows before submitting a PR.
As for ordering, @mattrixk is correct. Currently only the "extra" content is ordered based on the order in which it is defined in the theme xml. The order of everything else is hardcoded.
I think my next project will be to put together a z-index implementation to solve the ordering problem. I looked at this previously and the biggest issue was that the "extras" are treated as if they are a single element which complicates the ability to place elements such as video between them.

Brilliant - feel free to run it past me if you want me to look at the code.

@fieldofcows Thanks for taking a look at it. Most of the logic came from ImageComponent.

Ok, I can't find any other channel to tell this : Hello @Rookervik , I used part of your work to the header of my project on Hackaday.io. You can see here https://hackaday.io/project/20009-raspberry-pi-game-pad-enclosure-case
Let me know if it's ok for you or not, I made a point to tell you before you discover it.
Thanks, and great fr***g job (french people don't care about bad words).
-
@bumpshoveit That looks fine to me. More like your typical background image than using the art as part of your project. So I ok it.
-
@Rookervik i installed this a version or two ago and didn't see Doom so I made images for it I thought you'd like. Feel free to do with as you please.

Couldn't find a way to direct message you these so I'm sorry if links aren't ok.
I didn't include xml file as all that's changed is red background color. -
@Rookervik could I upgrade my pixel theme with not losing the sounds I added?
-
By the way, I think I will delete all my installed themes only keeping pixel and Carbon as my backup theme due the fact that I am only using the pixel theme, pixel splashscreen and pixel runcomands
-
@Rookervik Could you please make an icon for the joystick selection script with this theme?
Here is a link to the script:

Do you mean a Runcommand System Splashscreen?

can we get a pc slide for dosbox? LOVE THIS THEME!!!
-
@Swagman89 wtf is a pc slide?
-
@Rookervik I'm guessing they mean the PC folder, with the MSDOS logo, but if I'm remembering correctly, Pixel already has this.
-
Yeah that's exactly what I meant. Also I realized I was using the metapixel theme that had ripped you off :/...... so I just swapped to the real pixel theme and boom done.
-
@backstander for the pixel theme to stay within theme. However I went ahead and put one together. The logo I made, the background I got from Google images. Both were done to theme as pixel art.

@Swagman89 I prefer to think of it as "inspired by" Pixel hehe.
Basically I wanted to use the Pixel theme, but at the time it didn't display any metadata, and I wanted it, so I made my own version of Pixel with metadata. I custom made all the borders and half the backgrounds. Granted I used Rook's awesome console and logo artwork, but I also asked permission before doing so.
However, I'm also lazy, so I only made folders for the systems that I would use. As such, there are many missing.

@Rookervik
I love this theme but since I'm using Steve's multibootpi setup I have an entry for Raspbian alongside all of my other consoles but instead of a flashy retro logo and background its just the word raspbian all lowercase with a solid white background and it's a real buzzkill. I was wondering if you could whip up a logo really quickly, I would myself but I don't know how to edit the images or the theme itself in emulationstation :/
