Old TV Theme Idea
-
@Capeman Some videos caused my pi to do the same thing. I've re-encoded the ones that seem to have issues.
-
Can you please upload the theme.
-
@Capeman Any more progress on your theme?
-
@HurricaneFan a bit here and there, family and job take up most of my time, haha, I'll finish it eventually
-
@Capeman Take your time. Just excited to see what else you come up with.
-
I absolutely love this theme - waiting for this to be released :)
-
@Capeman is it possible to help you in anyway to release it? I can help, can't wait to have this theme :)
-
if some people are interested I could do the theme, would be better if someone want to help.
-
Sorry everybody, responsibilities keep getting in the way of me doing fun stuff like this. I'll update my base theme to support screenshots inside the tv and support most of the major systems and package this up pretty soon.
The only problem with this theme, and the main reason i stopped developing was that OMX player for video didnt support png overlay, so when you use this with the VLC video player, the pi would overheat. Not sure if that has ever been rectified.
-
@capeman totally forgot I'd subbed to this post, yeah it's VLC again if I understand correctly due to the VRAM split and other WSOD fixes so png overlays are all good again :) have you got the theme all foldered up somewhere I could pinch :)
-
@scannigan I must have missed that. So OMX player with overlays are now possible?
-
@rion I think he was referring to the overheating issue with VLC videos. @Scannigan where did you hear about this? if we can use vlc without overheating that'd be great!
-
@capeman I think it's noted on the Retropie github I think that WSOD, etc. Is no longer an issue also paired with the fact that a number of new themes I've seen support video and have overlays
-
sweet, i'll have to give it another go
-
@capeman you'll have to let me know when it's done dude
-
it might not overheat but the player kinda sucks. the videos don't seem fluid at all, like they stutter.
-
@dover19 That can be resolved using omxplayer or reducing the quality of the video. High quality videos can stutter some.
-
@hurricanefan yes that's what I'm saying, you have to use the OXM player but then you can't use layers so it doesn't work well with this theme. I never thought of reducing the quality of the video though so VLC wouldn't stutter. Have you done that before? I'm guessing using something like Handbrake.
-
@dover19 Yup, thats what I ended up doing for videos I got from emumovies. I used handbrake and lowered the quality some. It didn't make that much of a difference in how it looks on the pi, but it definitely made a difference on the performance in EmulationStation.
-
@hurricanefan Out of curiosity, did you leave the resolution intact and just lower the framerate? If you remember your settings, I'd love to know the optimal setting to get a passable quality on the pi that won't stutter.
