Game button info overlay on pause specific to each game

I remember when I had my MAME cab when I paused a game I could see a button overlay to help with remembering what buttons did what. I don't remember what frontend I was using but it had this option.
Now with multiple consoles and being older with two kids I can see this coming in handy ;).
Now I don't have the know how to do this but thought I'd put that idea out there.
