Famicom (not Mini) build (WIP)
-
@FlyingTomahawk Be careful or we're all going ot start asking you to buy us stuff. ;)
-
Thanks for the warning. ;)
I'm not gonna run around from store to store to search for certain game stuff. Those times are long gone. -
@FlyingTomahawk Just sayin, because I was like, "Hmm, I wonder if he could look for <insert random game stuff> for meβ¦"
Are all Famicoms that off beige color, or has yours yellowed over time? Any plans to try to whiten it?
-
I think mine is very close to its original color.
There are lot worse out there. Like really yellowish yellow. You can always tell me what you are looking for and if I should find it during my strolls then sure why not. But I can't make extra time to go search around that is just not possible.
-
@FlyingTomahawk That makes sense, considering how computers were all that off-white color before turning black in the late 90s.
Thanks, I appreciate it, but also wouldn't want to be a burden.
-
Just placed an order for a Pi Zero W and Zero4U.
I am currently setting up the Pi Zero 1.3 with the famicom mini theme and all but it is a pain in the *** to always swap between WiFi dongle and controller or keyboard. -
I forgot to ask something. When I took apart the Famicom the other day I saw this.
Looks like someone soldered a resistor on it and bridged 2 points. From the looks of it other points have been touched too. Failed AV mod?
-
@FlyingTomahawk Some googling around makes that look like some AV work, either to fix AV problems, or add AV out. With a lot of the other points also obviously soldered by hand, someone was messing with that Famicom quite a bit. I'd be curious if it even worked when you got it.
-
Now I know why it landed in the junk corner. If that is a mod then there is a lot missing. I don't think it would run. But soon it will have a nice HDMI exit. :)
Going to another store now that looks kinda like super potato, let's hope I can find one or the other treasure.
UPDATE: my luck, the store is gone! They closed down. :-( wondering what happened to all the retro stuff....
-
@FlyingTomahawk that stinks. There's a retro game store near me that is only open a few days per week and lately has been taken over by disc based systems.
I don't feel bad about modding a broken system. That Gameboy Advance I chopped up had a dead screen and the DS Lite I took apart for the ABXY was cracked in half.
I don't know the status of the Super Famicom I modded, but for $30 including shipping with a pristine case, it worked for me.
I'd love to find more broken old consoles with cases in good shape, but it's not easy, let alone stuff not intended for the US market.
-
@FlyingTomahawk i am definitely interested still in the console and if you want to sell me your controllers too. Not sure how we can communicate to set up a payment.
-
No worries the controllers are yours, just pay the shipping for them.
With "interested still in the console" what do you mean by it? Which console? Junk? Complete working set?
We can talk about payment when the time comes, unless you are in a hurry to get you quickly a quote. -
@FlyingTomahawk i am not in a hurry. And i have interest in a junk console like you did. But we can discuss all that when you are ready to ship the controllers.
-
Well, I won my eBay bid, so will be building another shortly, once my Mausberry, and cheap USB NES controllers turn up from the states.
I saw some legitimate Famicom mods that added a power led under the on off switch, i'm tempted at that, if the LED glows enough under it.
