Hey guys, I know this might be stupid but I think it would be cool to have idle animations in emulation station. Could this even work on the pi or is it too labour intensive or just plan impossible. Anyways, I just thought that it would be nice to see Mario kicking a shell like in Mario 3 while nothings happening.

@Kristopherson05 I've thought about this before. It would be nice if we could add animated gifs to themes, but I have no idea how hard it would be too implement, or how resource intensive it would be.

Imagine having sonic doing his spin dash along the bottom of the screen, or mario jumping up and breaking blocks from the gamelist.

I also wondered if gifs could be an alternative to video previews. It might use fewer resources of every game had an animated gif preview instead of a video. Or it might not. That's a question for people that know about this kind of stuff.

There is an AnimatedImageComponent class in the code. It looks like the only thing it is used for currently is to render a busy indicator when using the built-in scrapper. It doesn't support gifs. It needs to be configured with an image for each frame of animation.

@jdrassa That sounds disheartening. but not unexpected.

Maybe someday... but not today. (sigh)
