Retro game stuff talk

I have found a few really great Japanese sellers on eBay who I've purchased from many times with zero issues. There is one seller who I purchased from once, because the price was right, and there was an issue with shipping. Coming from Japan, I can certainly understand things can get knocked around, or delayed, but recently I bought Shanghai Pocket for WonderSwan from the same seller, because the price was great and based on the photos in the auction the box, etc. were all in great shape. When it arrived, not only was the box crushed due to poor packaging but there was also a tear/scratch on the front of the box that was not present in the auction photos. The pins on the cartridge are also super scratched up. After cleaning a few times with isopropyl alcohol it does play, but man. This is disappointing. The seller did agree to a 25% refund on the purchase price, but this is one seller I will not be buying from again, regardless of price.

Holy crap! What the hell happened to those pins? Did someone try to brush his teeth with that game? Or maybe use it as a fingernail file?
That really sucks and 25% ain't gonna sweetn anything about it.

today i created custom cases for my famicom disc system games. (actually only 1 thus far)
I mostly buy the FDS games without box but sometimes with manuals if available. To store them I have a box but it doesn't look nice so I thought I make my own art work and use a NDS case to store the FDS games, including manual if needed.

@FlyingTomahawk Nicely done! Is that foam to keep the game centered?
-
Yes it is.

Two more games in really nice shape have arrived. Hexcite and Tetris 2. While Tetris 2 is not nearly as fun as "real" Tetris, Hexcite is basically the same as its WonderSwan counterpart and I have been playing it a lot. I'm now on the lookout for Space Hexcite: Maetel Legend EX for Game Boy Advance for a decent price. It's basically the same as the other Hexcite games, but with a story and some better music.

Nice! I just bought perfect dark unopened.

Well that was an anticlimactic 1000th post in this thread…

Just not as Kool as you obsidian!

At least share a photo!

@space-cadet LOVED that game, still have all the packaging, but of course the game has been played to death.

This thread brings up a great question (perhaps even worthy of a thread of its own).
What are the gems of your retro gaming collection?
Here are some of mine:
Omega Race for Vic-20 (sadly no box or docs)
Unmodified original light gun for NES, still has the "clicker".
Legend of Zelda NES hint booklet with the seal still intact.
Dragon Warrior IV for NES, box and all docs.
StarCraft 64 with box and docs. I still actually play this!
Unmodified Lazer Tag gun, Worlds of Wonder version. Pretty rare to find unmodified. -
@VictimRLSH GBA SP NES Edition that I put an AGS-101 screen in. Ninja Cop on GBA (cartridge only) and Pole Position on Vectrex (cart + overlay). Outrun 2 and GTA triple pack for OG Xbox. Also KoTOR 2 Xbox still sealed, picked up for just a couple of €.

The pandemic has slowed down adding cool stuff to my collection, but recently my good friend Dan sent me this awesome green Play it Loud Game Boy.
He also sent over this really neat laser cut wooden NES cartridge. Thanks Dan!
-
@obsidianspider I made a box with a laser-cut Doctor Who logo about 7 years ago. Laser cutting is awesome, but that is by far a more sophisticated cut than mine!

I picked up this very clean teal Nintendo DSi and PSP-1000 from a Facebook Marketplace seller back on March 15, right as everyone was starting to get really concerned about the virus situation, so I guess this counts as a pandemic pickup. Both systems came with chargers and a few games, but they stank like smoke. Badly. Since they spent more than a few years in Marlboro Country I put them in Ziploc bags with dryer sheets for a few months. In the interim I ordered a new battery cover (which was missing) and battery (the OEM Sony one is puffed up from use/age) for the PSP. Today, almost four months after buying them, they are now out of stink jail and ready for display. They're not perfect, but considering their condition and that they came with chargers and some loose games, I'm very happy with what I paid and am glad to have an example of each system for my collection.

Here's my latest additions. For GBA I managed to get several games that I've been after for quite a while. First 'Metroid Zero Mission', it's unboxed but it's not easy to find genuine copies and I got it for a bargain price. Next 'Super Ghouls n Ghosts', not as rare as Metroid but not particularly common especially in such good condition with the original box and instructions. I also managed to pick up 'Mario Advance 1, 3, 4' so I now have the full set (Yoshis Island is in particularly good condition and was another bargain buy). Finally I have 'The Legendary Starfy 1,2,3' which are really unusual to find in the UK.
Next I bought some DS games. I have 'Space Invaders Extreme 1 and 2' - both amazing games so really pleased to have those in my collection. Next 'New Zealand Story Revolution' which is a really good version. And Finally 'Legendary Starfy 4' which I won for an absolute steal (I just need 'The Legendary Starfy' now to complete the set) .
Finally I've made some more cases for my GBA/Gameboy games. I make them for all my GBA/Gameboy games even if I have the original boxes as they're much more durable and they also look really smart on the shelf IMO. The original boxes get stored safely away.

@ruckage How do you make those cases? They're pretty cool
-
@simpleethat
They're DS cases (European DS case to be exact). They have a GBA holder inside which can be easily modded to hold GB/GBC games as well. You can see how they fit in this post: https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/8756/retro-game-stuff-talk/845?_=1595013116317
Some US DS cases have the slot for GBA carts but they aren't any good for GB/GBC games unfortunately:https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/8756/retro-game-stuff-talk/847?_=1595013116317
You can see some more I made with better photos below:

Loving those European DS cases. Really nice finds on those CIB Game Boy Games, especially Super Ghouls'N Ghosts!
