New Comic Book Theme!

@TMNTturtlguy yeah, tinkering is usually half the fun :) I also have the goal of building/putting together an arcade cabinet later in the year, so that'll keep me busy and I may ask for tips.

I'm pushing for these PRs for now and then I have a few ideas in the pipeline, which if I end up pursuing and they end up being possible, I may end up asking you to create a few more systems.

Things from the somewhat practical and manageable single "last played" list as an individual system in RetroPie, to the certainly more ambitious and stretch goal of sorting the "most played games by the community in the last month" as well. "Favorites" as a single list also make sense, as well as perhaps an "All" list as well, but one thing at a time. I'm not sure it's even possible yet.

It's always good to have something on the horizon, though. Keeps you engaged and motivated.

And even if I fail miserably at some or all of them, it should still be fun!

I would be more than happy to help create some logos and backgrounds if you can figure out how to make those work! Interested to see how you will get the run commands to all work in a single "system". Favorites has been asked for by a few, so I now that will be a good addition. Let me know when you start figuring things out and i will gladly test and create art for them.

@Syhles I have in my fork added a AudioServer for background media playback. It can be controlled from ES and has an interface. So if a theme has elements pointing to Play Pause Shuffle etc Icons then It can be themed.

@Syhles I havent implemented pulling info from server but it does send data with now playing. My setup involves a stripped down version of the server

@Hex in regards to themable icons, this has been a hot topic! What are you thinking for icons? Something like the help bar at the bottom? Would certain buttons be set to control them? At this point I am not sure that making them themable is important. Maybe just set them up so that the theme maker can change their colors?

Also, @Hex can we move this topic to its own thread so that my theme can keep its focus on the theme and it updates. Thanks!

AWESOME THEME! Big comicbook geek and graffiti artist (not so much anymore)here. I love the layouts and the graffiti style font for the consoles and how colorful it is.
I noticed PSP minis is missing so if you guys can make it that would be great.

hey guys , dont have a pi but im using emulator station on windows. any chance of getting the updated version for 16:9 available to download.. i think i found an older version on github.. My wii and gamecube still using the generic pictures instead of the proper ones.

Are you saying you have not yet added the Wii comic book art? or the game cube? everything else is comic book except the wii and gamecube just have the normal logos instead of the comic book writing

just went to the github its the same version i have.. and i went into the wii folder and yes there is still the normal wii logo and standard comic book theme picture background instead of a dedicated wii one? maybe you just have not completed those ones yet, if thats the case sorry.. i just thought i might have had an old version or something.. im sure i saw in one of the videos someone posted that wii had a proper comic book logo and picture.. keep up the good work this is awesome

@serotonin wii, GameCube, and PlayStation 2 logos and backgrounds are not completed. They are generic backgrounds and logos. Those systems don't emulate well on most setups except windows builds, so they are lower priority. Sorry for the confusion, I didn't understand what you were asking. There should not be any videos of the theme with this completed as I have never created them. Stay tuned for future updates as we may get to them eventually. Thanks

ahh i see no worries.. i have a full hyperspin setup with all most systems and roms 16tb. But i really like emulator station and your theme is amazing.. im just cherry picking my favourite systems and favourite games so its alot easier to navigate my collection. Ahh yes with pc you can have awesome graphics with the dolphin emulator for gamecube and wii.. Please dont forget about your pc fans who also love your theme, there are a few of us ;)

The Snes are really not nice :( because of the box orientation :'( need to find something nicer for that ;) but I prefere to have a unique and adaptative MIX for all systems instead of a dedicated MIX by system :S

@screech those look really nice! If you switch to detailed view you can avoid showing the same image twice (it should only show in the large black box. Nice work

Edit: I don't mind the SNES based on the box, what if the background image was removed and it was the simpler background like in the game it and nes? Any thoughts on arcade? I use your arcade machine with the game screenshot on the screen and the wheel art, wondering how you might incorporate that?

I made some "new" arrengement ^^
I kicked the "sun" background (But I can keep it in case of no Screenshot ;) )
And full Screenshot in back, with 3D Box and Logo over a Comic Bubble.
On top of that, a "comics" overlay...

We can play with the Z position of the overlay, so this is some render :

For Arcade machine, you've got 2 type :
Neogeo (who can have a cover) :

Or full arcade so... no box ^^ :

The only thing isn't "so nice" is the Image Size :
Theme Resize the image to fit a square, but this square seems "too small" for me...
If it can be a little bigger so the black border can be thiner "like other strip case" ;)
