@herb_fargus Does it matter if the URL has uppercase letters, or do they have to be all lowercase?
-
@mattrixk I named the repo with upper and lower case as you see above... my guess is that the URL is case sensitive, but I haven't tried accessing with all lowercase.
edit
I just tried changing the URL to all lowercase and I was able to access th URL in my browser... so I guess case doesn't matter. -
Wow, this is exactly what I've been waiting for and it looks perfect! Thank you so much! Question though: how do I add the the box art and the video previews? I recently joined emumovies so downloading the artwork isn't a problem, but I'm just not sure how to go about setting it up. Can you point me in the right direction?
-
@OhOhOne The way I did it was I uploaded all the box art and video files to my RetroPie. The location of where you put it doesn't matter, but you'll need to know where it is. In my case I put them under a folder called "media" under /opt/retropie/configs/all/emulationstation (or accessible via the .emulationstation symlink in the home directory for pi). In the case of Arcade games, I used logo files instead, since there is no box art imagery for MAME roms.
Then you'll need to edit your gameslist.xml files for each system you want to do this for. Update the <image> tag with the path of the box art image. It was mostly an exercise in searching and replacing common patterns, as the name of the image usually matched the name of the rom. There were a few I had to update manually. Then add a <video> tag for each game with the path to the corresponding image file. This was the most tedious part for me, but the video files for the most part are named the same as the box art image. So I started by copying the <image> tag and changing the differences to make it an applicable <video> tag pointing to the applicable mp4 file. I have about 20-30 games per system. Updating any one gameslist file took me about 10-15 minutes. I spread the work over a few days, say tackling 2-3 systems per day. Pro-tip: download the gameslist files to your computer and edit them there with a powerful text editor like Sublime Text, and then upload them back when you are done (Remember to back up the ones you are replacing just in case!). MUCH faster than trying to edit files over SSH with something like nano.
Unfortunately I didn't have a way to do the above automatically, but I'm guessing a smart person here could figure out a way to script this, especially if you need to tackle a massive game collection.
I hope this helps!

@j.e.f.f Wow, you are awesome Jeff, thank you so much again for such a fast, detailed and informative reply to such a stupid newbie question. You're the man!

@j.e.f.f nice job, thx for the theme. You kinda inspired me to mess around my carbon theme just for fun :D
-
I'm glad you guys like it! If you tool around with it, I'd love to see how it evolves over time.
-
@j.e.f.f my first try, i dunno if it's good but i have a thing for icons :D
-
@Squilenator Nice! I wish there were a way to format the date into something like March 3, 1994.
-
@j.e.f.f Yup, or change to european date format dd/mm/yy and maybe show only the year of release.
