Project wall cabinet with hdmi monitor
-
Hello
Actually I have a simple RPi3 with retropie installed, working on a 43" lcd TV
all work good, but not very functional.....My project is to do a "modular" wall cabinet, in 2 different phases. I want to do by step because i'm not very familiar with electronic component and programming
STEP 1 - RPi3 + little 4:3 LCD HDMI monitor + wireless pad. RPi powered by USB out monitor
STEP 2 - custom joypad x 2 player in additional wall structure (that will be "attached" in bottom of first structure)
similar example all in one
your advice?

Sound like fun!RPi powered by USB out monitor
Typically these USB outs on TVs don't push enough power and the USB outs on monitors aren't powered and needs another cable to plugs into a computer where it gets power and may not be enough power. There might be a few rare monitors/TVs that push enough power. Just keeps this in mind when building.
I would recommend a powered hub that could also be used to power the RPi and have it so you can access 1 or 2 of the USB ports from the outside of this cabinet for accessories.

Good project, just dig in! its very fulfilling when it comes together.
Heres a pic of my half cab / wall-cade, inspired by the same polycade you linked.
Its runs a raspberry 3b with AM, generic pc speakers, a hdmi 19" screen, usb led-lights and double dragonrise usb-pcb´s.
I made the plans in Illustrator and built it at work with our cnc-table.
really only got two good tips;- buy a multi outlet with a couple usb sockets. I draw the power to the lights and the speakers from there, so the raspberry dosent overcook.
- If youre green on linux/mame etc; Read the Retropie-wikis, watch lots of youtube! :)
