Upgrading to 64GB memory card

Hi,

First time poster and Pi beginner. Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere in the forum, but I searched and didn't see it. I come to learn from the masters.

I recently bought a Raspberry Pi 3 Canakit (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01C6Q2GSY/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1), and it came with a 32GB memory card. I’m using it with Retropie v4.2 to play video games.

I'm wondering if I can buy a 64GB memory card and use that instead. I'm not sure if there are memory limitations, or if the Pi would require any modifications to function with a 64GB card. I've heard about overclocking and changing power sources, but I don't know much about that. Related question - I've already added Retropie and my games to the 32GB card. If a 64GB card is usable, is there a quick way to copy all of that over to the 64GB card, or would I have to start from scratch (formatting, adding the Retropie image, adding the games, etc.)?

@westleigh77 you can image your 32gb card, write the image to the 64gb card, then boot from the 64gb card and expand it from raspi-config to fill the entire space.

@westleigh77 Just use Win32diskimager or etcher.io to read your card to an external device. Then write it the same way you did with the RetroPie image. It's always easier to go up to a bigger card than move to a smaller or even one that purports to be the same size.

@jonnykesh I don't believe etcher has a way to back up SD cards (unless that's a feature that has been added recently)

or you can just buy a 64gb memory stick and copy the roms/bios files to it and put in in a folder called retropie-mount. Samsung has one that is almost flush mount for $20 US and you have the bonus of plugging it into another retro pie and have it as like your own "cartridge" with all your own games and saves. Also if you ever have to reformat and start over you don't have to reinstall all the roms again.
