[Request] Theme for small screens (3.5 inch, 4:3)
-
Hello themers, I would like to request a theme optimized for small screens. Something like this. Currently there is only few theme that targets this space. I would highly appreciate someone taking a stab at this.
gbz35 -> https://github.com/rxbrad/es-theme-gbz35
tft -> https://github.com/anthonycaccese/es-theme-tft

I know @alphatoanant did a theme targeting smaller screens. It's called TFT.
It's available via the ES Themes manager as well.
Here's the link to the forum post for it if you would like to see how it works for you.

Yea I totally forgot about this. Thanks for reminding.
-
@hex @alphatoanant Just released a 4x3 version of his art book theme too.
-
@HurricaneFan That doesnt target small displays. If you see the other two they are specifically made for small displays.
-
@hex Ooh, oops. :)
-
@hex my IO theme has 3 templates for different size screens: large, medium and small. Check the link in my sig (I'm on mobile, and I'm lazy).
-
Rookervik also did minilumi and pixeltft or something like that both should be installable from the theme downloader
-
@hex Namaste
As I'm currently ready with my 4,3" TFT build, too - I'm also interested for small themes. On all my builds I use IO theme, it's very fast loading and supports all main features. Video preview isn't really an option for Pi Zeros.Other themes I listed here...
https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/11477/es-themes-ready-for-favorite-all-games-recently-played-and-custom-collections/1I listed two other themes that may fit!
NES Mini @ruckage and Famicom Mini @ruckage
But they don't support collections, still now!
btw: You have to edit the themes layout from HD to 320x240 or 640x480 res -
@herb_fargus Pixeltft hasn't been updated since a long time. I dont know if it works with current ES considering many themes were broken recently.
@cyperghost Nes mini and Famicom mini are not optimized for small screens.
-
@hex I think they are optimized
Please correct me if I'm wrong, there is a setting in layout.xml
Or what do you mean with "optimized"?<!-- theme name: nesmini version: 1.0 author: ruckage --> <theme> <formatVersion>3</formatVersion> <!-- Choose your layout --> <include>./layouts/a.xml</include> <!-- Choose your resolution --> <include>./layouts/320x240.xml</include> <!-- ENTER RESOLUTION: 1920x1080 1366x768 1280x720 1440x1080 1280x960 1024x768 800x600 640x480 320x240 --> </theme>
-
@cyperghost Optimized means made specially for 3.5 inch displays like gbz35, tft, io, pixel-tft
-
With my Raspiboys arriving any day now, this is very relevant to my interests!
-
@zigurana With the IO or the GBZ you are on a good way to go ;)
But also the Famicom/NESmini are looking fine (I have a 480x272pixel display = 4,3 inch) even if they are not optimized -
-
@zigurana unrelated. But if it's the link Cyberghost posted I'd be interested in your review of the product, I've been eyeing it for a while and need an excuse to buy it
-
matrixk,
Thank you for the IO theme! I did not realize it has a small screen option!I did have to edit the small.xml to increase the help menu font size from 0.025 to 0.06 to make it readable. 0.05 would work - but I figured I was already there so I made it easier for me to read.
-
Zigurana,
I have been running my RaspiBoy for a couple of days and it is a blast!.
I made a suggestion on the 8Bcraft forum to fill the L&R buttons flush with hot glue before assembly. (I actually used Sugru!) This will make it easier to assemble enhance functionality with the L&R silicone pads. -
@thex No worries mate, glad you like it. I don't have any small screens to test it on, so I was just guessing at the numbers. I'll change it in the repo when I get the chance.
-
@herb_fargus I'm sure that the links I posted is the right one ;) As I saw it first I thought ... what a ugly grey block! But after a few seconds of thinking about it's a really neat device. The assembly is super easy without soldering and all the electronic parts are on one main PCB. The connection to the Pi0 is made by springs ... Really a good project.
The only thing I doubt is the multi player ability as presented in the video as the two guys are sitting in the train! But I think it makes sense if you can still use the HDMI port and use the device just as "USB/BT Hub" for your controllers.
The price seems to be fair.... So you see what can be done if you are the master behind a housing design ;)
@mattrixk Well, the IO looks blasting good on FullHD and much smaller screens ;) I prefer intuitive and fast themes (one exception is RetroRama - this one is so lovely made!)
Feel free to add this to your github repo ;) You see I have a bookshelf in my flat!
Contributions to the project are always appreciated, so if you would like to support us with a donation you can do so here.
