AdvanceMAME not saving controller configurations.

Hello,
I am using RetroPie 3.7 on a RPi 3. The controllers(Dualshock 3) are functioning correctly and I can map all the buttons within AdvanceMAME. My problem is that once I exit a game the configs are not saved.
I have tried both emulators available in AdvanceMAME ( advmame 1.4 and advmame 0.94.0) but neither of them makes any difference. I have tried searching on the forums and Google but without any success.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Cheers -
Having same issue on Retropie 3.8. Works fin with earlier versions.

Same here. I can manually edit advmame-0.94.0.rc to get the controls to save but would prefer to have configuration settings saved automatically. Any advice?

I had the same issue (4.1.18).
I changed the permissions on advmame-0.94.0.rc file to allow write for "others" and now it saves the changes in config. Similar for advmame 1.4. -
Hi there, I'm a noob with all this but keen to be able to safe my controllers setting too. Could you please advise the steps I need to take to do this? Thanks for your help

So i am trying this as well.. I winscp in to the pi, and changed advmame.rc (.94 and 1.4) and the cfg to RWSRWSRWT basically god rights, and the sensitivity, nor any settings on the mame tab save once I change them. please advise.
THe trackball works great with USB by default, no need to edit to raw etc... i just cant save any settings. -
