What games are you playing this week? 2017-09-04
-
Since it came along with the Pocket I bought on eBay, I'm playing Super Mario Land this week. I've actually never finished this game before, and I'm really liking the form factor of the Game Boy Pocket.
-
I'm going to attempt to beat Earthbound before Thursday
-
Hunting cheevos in Mega Man 4 (NES). Having some problems with the ones for defeating bosses damageless...
-
I'm pretty late on this one but, I'm playing Gauntlet DS. It's an unreleased title for the DS but its actually a pretty complete game. The old hack and slash games I sorta have a soft spot for.
-
@lilbud Scratch that, I bought and beat Sonic Mania yesterday
-
@lilbud nice! Did you get the big bundle with all the Sonic swag or just the game itself?
-
Parasite Eve! Man I love this series, Squaresoft was so much better before they merged with Enix Enterprise
-
@retroxpert oh man, i love that game. The weapon crafting system was so awesome. Sadly Parasite Eve 2 was lacking some of the rpg elements and therefore not so good.
-
@celly I got just the game itself, I have no room for any of that extra stuff.
But if they release the soundtrack on I Tunes/Google Play, I'll be sure to pick that up
I'd get the vinyl, but it won't ship until sometime in October

Did you enjoy it?
I'm still playing it myself as I've been limiting myself to a level a night so it's not over too quickly but I don't have many levels left to do now :( . It will still be fun to re-play though. -
@ruckage I generally liked it, except for certain parts (Hydrocity Zone can go burn). It felt just like classic Sonic on the Genesis. The music is absolutely kick ass.
-
@lilbud
The music is great. I actually didn't mind hydrocity apart from I died once because a big bubble refused to appear so I drowned - that felt really unfair.
My least favourite zone is flying battery, I never have liked it - it looks bland and isn't much fun to me but I think I'm the odd one out as it seems to be many peoples favourite.My only negatives are that they relied too heavily on levels from previous games, I know they added new elements but it would have been nice to have a few more completely new zones and levels. Also the continue system is archaic, there really is no need to force the player to restart an entire zone if you run out of lives. It's a relic from gaming that is just irritating especially as some of these levels are pretty long and you can guarantee if you die it will be on a boss.
Other than that It's a fantastic game and I really hope they release more.
And the intro video is great :) -

Psssst...http://www.en.magicgameworld.com/sonic-mania-pc-how-to-access-the-developer-menu-easily/
This is the way to access the developer menu on PC, it allows you to skip right to the zone you died on.
-
@lilbud
I'm on ps4 but think there is a Dev mode on that as well. I'd feel like I was cheating though so I have to complete it once at least without cheating :D .It's not all the difficult anyway but it is irritating if you do happen to run out of lives. -
After testing multiple games recently for possible bugs, I was hooked to Covert Ops: Nuclear Dawn (Chase the Express in some countries). There's just something in that game, that makes you wanna play it more, despite its flaws.
-
Phew... Finally managed to defeat Ring Man (Mega Man 4) without taking damage. It took several tries...
Now I only need to do the same with SkullMan, DrillMan and BrightMan in order to get the badge for this game. But I'm afraid I'm not able to do that. They are not hard bosses (specially with the right weapon), but it's freaking hard to defeat them damageless!
-
Playing some Gargoyle's Quest (GameBoy) on my RetroArch/PS Vita when I'm not on the comfort of my home. Pretty cool game.
@cyperghost do you wanna join? It has some cheevos.
BTW, looks like you didn't enable hardcore mode on your RetroAchievements configs. Do you use save states that much? Playing with no save states (hardcore mode) can be a big changing of paradigm for those used to play with emulators for years. But once I got used to it, I'm loving the chalenge! :-)
-
@meleu I played it through during my kids time ;) It's a pretty cool game - Firebrand!
I've enabled cheevos_verbose ... but I don't see any message of login :(Well why not? Are there any rules? like progress in one week ;)

What's your RetroArch version? This feature was added in 1.6.3.
Are there any rules?
Only one: Have fun! :-)
Progress in one week would be good, but we have a Real Life going on... kids, wife... Let's focus on having fun. Also, sharing our progress and tips about the game would be nice. :-)
-
@meleu Thx - will update to 1.6.3 ;)
Okay one rule: Fun! ;)
