Where should I be making global changes for PS3 controller?

The location that I made changes is opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch-joypads
PLAYSTATION(R)3Controller.cfg
SonyPLAYSTATION(R)3Controller.cfgThe mapping works until I reset the retropie then reverts back to what ever the default is.
Im currently on 3.8.1 -
Why not use the Retroarch settings menu to make the changes...?
Or why not just use the EmulationStation mappings, and use per-core remapping options in the Retroarch quick menu while in game?Would help if you explained what you are trying to accomplish.

I would love for the emulationstation mapping to be mirrored during gameplay. How do I enable that? I dont really care where I need to make these changes at as long as they stick and dont revert back each time i start up the retropie

i managed to get it working how i wanted in rgui.... not sure why it wasnt before but owell ...
