Retropie 2 Player Arcade Fight Stick Shell, Need Opinions
-
We are having a 2 player arcade fight stick made to house the raspberry pi. The shell will be built around the pi so it will be a professional looking case. We have all the inside mapped out as far as location of all the needed hardware. What we need advise on is buttons. Most arcade builds I have seen run the following:
- Joy Stick
- Eight buttons (B A X Y Right Shoulder Left Shoulder Start Select)
Will that cover the majority of the games that RetroPie is capable of running or do we need more?
Thanks for your opinions! Very excited about this project. I have attached a image of a generic fight stick to show what I am referring too :)
Thank you

@shanet94 That will cover many of the arcade games (up to two player), but note that some arcade games have specialized controls, like a spinner or trackball, or a steering wheel. You won't be covering those unless you are OK managing that control scheme with a joystick.
For home game console games, it is probably best to take a look at each controller in the Docs to check possible mapping to see if you are getting good coverage of the original buttons. Systems like Atari 2600, NES, SNES are covered (although it is debatable whether a fight stick is a good substitute for holding a controller in your had for these systems). For other systems like PS1 etc, your joystick can work nicely as a d-pad, but you don't, for example, have an analog stick. Depending on the game, you might run into problems. It all comes down to the games you hope to play among the thousands of possibilities.

This looks awesome Shane, I'd love to buy the housing and buttons..... I already have the PI.... will you be putting on Ebay anytime soon?
