Space Oddity theme

@sergioad ports is there too.

Excellent work!

I made an account here just to say that this is some quality work here. How well does it look with 4:3 Screens?
-
@sgtjimmyrustles Thanks! never tested it in 4:3 res.
-
@lipebello I too am very interested in 4:3 aspect ratio, as most games were in that format to begin with and some of us have built entire systems around that fact.
It is very impressive work. Is it available through the ES Themes downloads via the RetroPie menu? I would be willing to test on my system.

Yes

@lipebello Ok, I gave it a good test. It's a lovely theme, but I wanted to pass along some feedback.
First, it's missing an "Apple II" section.
Second, the design holds up OK in 4:3 but it is horizontally squished. This effect is the same with Retrorama. Most notably, the round planetoids and comets come in as vertically stretched ovals.
On the gamelist screens, the scrollable box has the bottom title cut off. and some of the metadata fields get stacked on top of one another and wrap weird. Here's a quick photo:
I do like the visuals, and the emphasis on a large photo/video is nice. I realize, sometimes not all designs lend themselves to the traditional aspect ratio, but this would be a nice one to see in 4:3. It is certainly better than any theme I ever built (which is none, by the way)!

@lipebello thanks, the version I tested had not it

@lipebello this is an amazing looking theme. Excellent job. I too would love to see apple ii and if possible astrocade. You have done so many systems already i am amazed. Awesome job. 3 thumbs up!!
-
Impressive @lipebello ! I also think like @caver01 a 4:3 aspect ratio would be sweet.
In the process of setting up a Bang & olufsen MX4000 with RetroTINK.

Thanks a lot for the feedback.
i think it's best to release a 4:3 version of it, with adjusted backgrounds -
@lipebello Agreed. There is some layout adjustments necessary in addition to the backgrounds. In fact, I could live with the distortion if the text fields were not cropped and crammed, so I would suggest that layout concerns are more important.

So I tried it out on a 4x3 theme, and while it works and stuff shows up, the consoles look squashed. I guess you'd have to make a separate one where the console images are all set at the right sizes. Even so, it's a pretty cool theme.
Another question, ever think about making the images for the launching console images? I'd love to have a set.
-
@lipebello This is a work of art mate. I dig the logos and I'm really curious how you made the console artwork. Are they just photos that you've used photoshop filters on? Or did you trace them? Or make them from scratch? Whatever you've done, they look awesome!
-
@mattrixk Thanks! it's the consoles that i drew for retrorama, i converted the linework in vector and made 3 layers, increasing the line thickness and opacity
-
@lipebello I love this theme. One of my favorites now. Would you by chance be interested in making launching images for this theme?
-
@allahandro @lipebello yeah, that would be cool!
-
Is there going to be a 4:3 version?
Amazing theme, btw. Congrats!!

I'd love to know this too. Probably the best theme to use on a CRT.
-
I went ahead and converted the theme to a 4:3 aspect ratio.
Download here: http://rtid.co.uk/SpaceOddity43.zipThere's also a version for CRT's, which makes the font more readable at 240p/480i
Download here: http://rtid.co.uk/SpaceOddity240.zipI hope the author doesn't mind me doing this.
