So I just bought a new USB GameCube controller to go with my Logitech F310 to play some Vampire savior. When I try to map the left bottom button on either controller, the input skips the button. I don't have this problem with my USB SNES adapter for an original SNES controller. I supposed it was because they're triggers, but the config maps the left bottom controller just fine. What can I do to fix this problem guys?

@herb_fargus would this also apply to the USB GameCube controller?

As far as I know, that applies to all controllers with analog triggers preceding digital trigger buttons. I use a Gamecube Wavebird myself and now just configure my analog triggers to be indistinguishable from the digital buttons at a system level. However, the information in that link is a quicker way. It will result in mapping the analog triggers to the upper L&R.

If you wish to map the digital shoulder buttons that only respond after you've pressed the analog triggers all the way down, then a little care must be taken. When you move back up the list to correct the mappings, have the trigger pressed all the way down, until you feel the beginning tension of the digital button. Then when the mapper is requesting input, push what's left of the button down.

Mapping this way can be a necessity in many games. One example is the SNES game 'F-Zero'. When using the the shoulder buttons to bank left and right, you often have to hold these buttons down for a considerable time. If you map the analog part of the trigger, you'll push past the analog into the digital and the banking will cease to respond unless you let go and press the trigger again. However, carefully mapping the digital buttons will avoid these issues.

@mediamogul you guys rock. I'm learning more of Linux and the raspberry pi a bit more each day. I can't wait for the day when I'm able to help someone like you've helped me.

Different people need help on different levels. I'm sure you'd already be a big help to many people. You're enthusiasm will help out more than you know as it's easy for people to become discouraged by continued frustration on a project and a positive perspective can sometimes help a lot. It can sometimes lead to a black eye too, so I recommend playing a lot of 'Karate Kid' by LJN so you'll know how to defend yourself against thugs who want to destroy your vegetable garden and make you chop through solid sheets of ice and dodge razor pendulums... Wait, what were we talking about?
