Retorpie asks for login when shutting down or ask for pi address
-
When I goto options in Emulation Station and press Shut down it come up with the a black screen and the command prompt asking me to login and it does it when I press on the pi address in the RetroPie options in the RetroPie menu in ES too..
I am using Attraction Mode 2.0 and RetroPie 4.0..
Anyone know why..?
Yes I have a new PI..;) Raspberry PI 3 and I love it.
-
@spannernick1 is it asking to login or just the password?
-
Its asking for login and password,I think its got something to do with me installing LXDE the desktop yesterday not sure.nothing is working it will not even load a rom now all that it does is have a black screen...wired
It plays the video when you turn it on and loads ES ok but even if I try to load retropie setup it comes up with the login again.
Looks like I will have to rewrite the sdcard again and not install LXDE,looks like it messes it up.
-
@spannernick1 are you using the trick in the
/boot/cmdline.txt
file to hide the boot text? -
@meleu No I have't change that file.anyway I have rewritten the sd card now so all working again, just installed lxde and its stops shh and make it come up with logn,so LXDE don't work with this version,,I wanted to use the raspberry PI 3 remotely..ah well. I going to install Tight VNC Server next.so I can't use LXDE on my PC remotly..;( ah well, thats how I tranfer files it the right directories.Tight VNC Server works fine with it,is there a way of adding it to the retropie setup script..?
So WARNING installing LXDE in floob-retropie-attractmode-v05-23-AUG-2016.img will mess it all up and stop it from working.
Dose Floob know why..?

I just ran the upgrade and it did this.
to fix this you need to go into raspi-config and change the boot option to auto-login under command line, otherwise it will not let you change anything on the back end.
you do not need to do any rewrites.....
if your using just the Pi, then attach a keyboard and hit F4... if it prompts you for log in then the username is pi, password (default) is raspberry
when your on commandline put in sudo raspi-config and the 3rd selection click that and then hit the second selection that says auto log in

@BuZz @administrators @Global-Moderators
hopfully tagged the right people as I do think this is a bug, and I for the life of me, do not remember how to report a bug

If you have an error with a RetroPie image, then please report it here. Please note that the Attract Mode front end used with one of my images is not supported, its just a proof of concept to show how it could be used. If you have an issue with the official RetroPie release, please post details like this:

@meleu i just had an issue where the platform wasnt set on my retropi image and even though im using rasp pi 3 it wasnt listed as an option so i set it to rpi2 instead of rpi3.. this allowed me to reach the setup and run the update command but now its giving me login prompt for username and password... im pretty fed up with how difficult it is to just be able to run an emulator on raspberry pi3... im about to just give up as a basically have to learn the whole linix operatiting system just to run a flipping emulator.. why is it that this cant be set up easily for a beginner user? makes me feel like a complete moron from the very start and this shouldnt be the case. long story short i guess im going to start over completely from scratch which ticks me off because of all the time i spent installing roms and setting this up in the first place to now have to start all over again. if anyone knows how to fix this please reply and maybe you can help another user in the future as for me... i give up too upset to continue with this. whomever this message reaches I would suggest contacting someone higher up the chain of command untill it reaches the very top to inform them to MAKE THE SOFTWARE EASIER TO USE. some documentation would be great, ease of use is a MUST... anyways, thanks to whoever reads this for taking your time and hopefully something can be resolved.

@stingjay You need to learn a bit of Linux because a Pi is a Linux computer... This is not and has never pretended to be a "plug and play" console. You might be better off looking at "Recalbox" as it's a bit more user friendly but a lot more limited. Or even just buy a SNES Mini if you're not prepared to learn and just want to play games.

@stingjay you clearly did not read the message that is on top of every single page of this forum:
Please do not post a support request without first reading and following the advice in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-firstWe have good docs here: https://retropie.org.uk/docs/
I am really amazed with how easily we can set a retrogaming machine on a cheap board and completely with a free software.
