SNES PROBLEM PLEASE HELP!

I cant play snes games they keep doing random things like I have to press select instead of start to play mario allstars only I cant play it anyway because once I get to the game its just a wall of different coloured pixels with a mario remis playing and in home alone 2 he just runs backwards into the guy your trying to run away from Ive tried uninstalling all the games and reinstalling them but it doesnt work I dont want to reset my pi what can I do to fix it? please help me I have no idea what could be wrong I did nothing

ok well thankyou heaps for your help :) I'm not entirely sure how to do that do you know how I copy the code into the file or whatever you call it I cant even open it

This could be a multiple of different things , lets start at the beginning
ROMS - This is a sensitive issue due to rules but there are good and bad roms so please check the roms you are getting, Fish about the internet for more information.
Emulation - Which SNES emulator are you using , this maybe an issue based on your controller configuration my recommendation if your fairly new to this is look at lr-snes9x-Next , It's a solid emulator and uses retro arch configuration
My opinion would be this is a ROM issue from my experience, Which is limited to about 2 months of doing this.

does this mean the rom messed everything up and it will fix itself in 2 months time?
as long as I dont play that rom again? -
ps I dont know how to change my emulator?

Ok so that's fairly simple , start a game any game and when the black screen comes up just before the game press A, and change the emulator to the one you want, don't panic I was in the same place as you a month ago.
