Speed of UAE4ALL on RetroPie
-
Hi there
I have recently purchased a Picade cabinet and have just built it and installed RetroPie 4.3 on my Raspberry Pi 3 Model B.
I have installed the UAE4ALL Amiga emulator and uploaded a Sensible World of Soccer rom (2 disks) to the roms folder. I am able to launch this successfully but it takes forever to load.
Once it shows the ROM creators splash screen and I hit Enter, there is a 20 second black screen. Then it shows the Sensible Soccer splash screen. If I hit a key (A or Start) the music fades and loading begins. The Sensible Soccer splash screen remains for 15 seconds, then I get a black screen for 62 seconds. Finally I am presented with the main menu.
The game itself runs quickly and smoothly once this process is over.
Is this normal? I am using the A1200 preset.
Many thanks

Hi,
From my memory of Amiga games this is probably about right to load Sensible Soccer on the A1200. When I first moved from my ZX Spectrum to my Amiga years ago loading times seemed lightening quick, but actually some games on the Amiga could take at a while to load.
One way to verify the loading time would be to install WinUAE on a PC and then load Sensible Soccer and compare the time.
I know that you can speed up loading by increasing the floppy drive speed in the UAE4ALL menu, but this can cause compatibility issues.
Hope that helps

Thank you so much. I increased the drive speed to 8x and it improved a fair bit. I suppose we are just used to instant loading these days!
Thanks again -
try loading a C64 game from a cassete based rom, that brings back memories!

@spruce_m00se You meant Nightmares...

haha, you would be suprised, as a kid we enjoyed listening to the music and loking at the splash screen while it loaded, I loaded one game up the other day, and the splash screen actually brought back vivid memories that I had fully forgotten up till that point.
