Custom Playlist for Genres?
-
Hey gents, somewhat new to RetroPie. I have a bunch of systems set up and games within each system but is there any way to make a playlist off of Genres across all systems? For instance, I'd like to easily see all "Racing" games I have, regardless of what system they are a part of. Thanks in advance!

If you're using the latest version, then EmulationStation has support for creating custom Collections out of your ROMs, taken from arbitrary systems. Luckily, the docs have been graciously updated and you can see how this works at https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/EmulationStation

Wonderful, thank you.

@tropez If you don't wish to create custom collections, then, using the latest version of ES, you can filter your gamelist by genre as well as number of players and publisher or developer. You need to have to scraped metadata for this feature to be available.
When you are in the detailed view of your games, press
select
on your controller. In theOptions
menu, selectFilter Gamelist
, thenGenre
. Select your genre(s) and thenBack
until you have returned back to the detailed view in ES, which should now only show the games that match the genre you selected. If you wish to restore all of your games, then in the
Filter Gamelist
option, you can chooseSelect None

Very handy, thank you.

Hi,
thread is older, but I will put my additionally question here:
genre filtering is fine and it's working, my question is:
Is it possible so "save" a filter to a favorite, so i.e. I can create a favorite list which automatically contains all games with genre "action", and another list of favorites which contains all games with (genre) "Sport" ?Or have I to put the games in my favorites list (Sport, Action, ...) manually?
(Because using the filter option is working, few steps to set filter and disable filter later again ...)

When filtering, to create a new list (for example all CPS1 games or all the konami beat-em-up games), do you have a way to select multiple games or do you have to scroll the filtered list and add each title one by one?
Other frontends on Windows for example are able to create customized lists with few clicks, so I hope this is possible on Emulationstation too.
Contributions to the project are always appreciated, so if you would like to support us with a donation you can do so here.
